SUNSET SOUND is very much a part of HOLLYWOOD's iconic recording studio history, and this video documenting the history is priceless! I say the glory days, the Wrecking Crew days of the late 1950's through the late 1970's, a twenty-year period when all the recording studios and musicians were the busiest... my late friend and fellow Brit Phil Yeend, really "shot himself in the foot" when he sold his Conway Recorders in 1976 to Buddy Brundo who still owns it. If I remember it right Herb Alpert cut his very first record The Lonely Bull there, and Buddy really made it even more iconic. The Disney history with Sunset Sound is fascinating in itself, and Paul's father namely the company with the address as the title, just perfect locationwise and everything, ideal for the studio musicians who dovetailed their dates back then racing from one nearby studio to another. The old Chaplin Studios on La Brea was one of the homes for the original PERRY MASON TV show for a while. As Paul Camarata well knows, the business has changed dramatically, and what passes as "music" today is the complete opposite of those glory days which had so much musical diversity and inspiration. Little did anyone know back then, that it was that short 20-year period gave the world its best music ever! SUNSET SOUND and Paul can be rightly proud being part of that legacy...

I had the Jungle Book read-a-long record. I had never seen the movie (this was before video rentals but years after the initial movie release ). But I LOVED that record and book. So I was totally stoked when they brought it back to the theater in the late 70’s.

I loved it, I could have listen to this chat for the next 3 hours no problem! 🤩💯👍🏻 This studio means so much to so many of us! 💖 There's just a small thing I was a bit disappointed though... when Paul was asked about the '90s, I thought he was going to mention Nirvana for sure! I know that Nevermind is well documented in Dave Growl's "Sound City" movie, but I wish he had shared some of his memories about it. Nonetheless, beautiful and very entertaining interview! Excellent interview, music made in studios have a feel , that is timeless, when you go to a studio and work in atmosphere of history its an adventure. Nothing like having a group of musicians or a band locking into a groove , its something that is magical. Just the full current of electricity going to a console and if you can use tape is real art ,along with the acoustics in these legendary rooms .. love the passion you have in keeping Sunset Sound open . More young bands should go to studios instead of being one of the millions with a DAW and wanting a short cut to making music . Bring your hard drive from your home session and mix on a console and try out the echo chambers, you'll be glad you did one day ...

One last thought. Artists like Carli B get over a million hits and will not be remembered in 5 years but yet this place is the history of music of the past 50 years and has 13 comments. I'm 2 of them. That's what's wrong with music today, people have no understanding of the history and nor do they care.
@Roundtablewithdrew3 жыл бұрын
Exactly .
@m00ndawg2 жыл бұрын
I agree abt (some) people having no understanding nor care about history, or its deets but i respectfully disagree abt Cardi B. As repulsive as i find her genre to be she'll still be some (simple) adults childhood memory. Never forget that today is those simpletons "good ole days". But also the key to staying young is evolving with music. Try not to think "instead of", think "in addition to". The evolution of music, sound, is like a train always moving forward. Never get off the train. To remain onboard, is to remain forever young.

And all the free music intruded the sales of CDs, thank god, they didn't quit to sale them, I'm a purify nerd about music, I'm a lucky guy, as a mixer that multitracks comes in via internet, and when I did the mix, straight to the mastering engineer. But there is one thing you have to keep in mind, quality, you won't find quality on itunes or any other streaming service. I have trained ears and I can get so the compressed and RAW recordings apart. My mentor always pointed to Sunset Studios, and if I had the money, I sure would bring a visit. But from Belgium it's an expensive trip. Good, there is youtube. Take care all.
