Sunshine (2007) vs Solar Crisis (1990): An Interesting Compare and Contrast

This is one from last year. Sunshine is a really unique film and apart from some smaller ones that appeared on the Sci-fi Channel or released by the Asylum, there weren't many disaster or science fiction movies where the sun was a threat. Solar Crisis from 1990 was available for free on KZbin and boy I can see why it was so forgotten......
This is one of the videos where I recorded my narration with an older microphone so apologies for the sound quality there. Oh and if you feel this video ends too abruptly you are not alone. My youngest sister feels the same way.

I must add that I am aware that I mispronounced the name of Solar Crisis' director. The name is pronounced SAH-RAY-FEE-ANN. Same goes for screenwriter Tedi Sarafian.

Thanks for this analysis, I've never seen the two movies contrasted this way and you do a great job summarizing them. I actually prefer Solar Crisis but that's just me. You might also be interested in The Arrival vs. Epoch (2001), both about giant mysterious alien artifacts that appear and threaten the world and have to be explored by scientists while militaries advance around them.

I was always under the impression that Alex’s “enhancements” and normal care/maintenance are what made the brainwashing possible - was I mistaken?

I don't really know. The movie (neither version despite the Alan Smithee cut going out of its way to talk about it) didn't really explain that all that well.
