Just bought 4 of these Southern Living plants. I’m glad they didn’t put “privet” on the tag...I would’ve passed on them since I had not watched Jim’s video before purchase. I would have been concerned about the invasive properties of the common privet, but no worries with these little beauties!

Hi Jim, I have the sunshine ligustrum for a year in a container and I transplanted it in the ground this past spring. I'm in zone 7 and it started having brown tips on the leaves. The leaves also started falling. I thought it was the watering problem but I have been watering it regularly and I've been letting it dry before I water them. What do you think I should do to stop it from having brown tips and falling leaves?

Hi Jim, I have a question please. I have the curly leaf flowering ligustrum that the bottom leaf’s want to curl almost to a closer. Is this that habit or do you think there’s a problem. I have asked the neighbors yard guy to be very careful not to throw fertilizer or mow too closely until I can figure out what the issue is. I have over 30 planted for a privacy hedge that’s been planted 3 years +. Any thoughts you have would be greatly appreciated:)

@@tommalone100 Hi! This is an amazing pairing, however, sadly it didn’t work out for my application. The bed that I put these in is in full sun from morning until around 5p so be loropetalum had a really hard time with so munch hot sun in Alabama. Even turned green mid summer and defoliated. So I’ll be moving the loropetalum this spring to a part sun spot and planting Encore azalea in their place with Ligustrum behind them. I don’t have a good and decent photo at the moment. But just beware of where you plant loropetalum if you’re in the south.

@@tommalone100I did a lot of research on sun conditions also before I purchased the 3 I have, but I think our hot summers were just too much for them. However, I did plant in June/July so waiting that long into the summer may have played a part in their health for the first growing season. A spring or fall planting may have better results.

I am considering planting a short hedge of Sunshine Ligustrum on my border with a Daydream Dwarf Loropetalum hedge planted in front of it, but I cannot find a single photo online of this arrangement, so I’m getting cold feet. I see plenty of photos with the Loropetalum in back, but none in the reverse order. Can you possibly share a photo like that with me? Is there something with the design idea, that light colors should not be planted behind dark colors? I would very much appreciate your advice before we get to planting time. I’m in Atlanta. Thanks.

Try cutting a bar of original scent Irish spring soap in half, place the chunks in 2 socks or nets and steak them near plants & trees you don't want deer or varmits near. They seem to hate the smell. Replace the soap every 2-4 weeks when the scent decreases.
