Sunshine Ligustrum & Touch of Gold Holly

These two keep their phenomenal chartreuse color year round. The Sunshine Ligustrum has a slightly faster growth rate, so they'll take trimming a couple of times a year if you're wanting to keep them shorter. However they are easily maintained at 3 ft! The Touch of Gold Holly is less maintenance since on its' own it'll stay around 2-3 feet and trimming is only required to maintain a shape. The full sun will bring out their bright color but can tolerate part sun as well. Don't forget to fertilize yearly!

I recently purchased a 3 gallon Sunshine Ligustrum. I plan on using it in a container, and I've pruned it into a tree shape. Will it be safe outside during the winter? I'm in Texas and some winters are very mild, yet others can be severe at times. If it falls below freezing for any length of time, is it wise to bring the plant inside until it's more established? Thank you.

When will they be getting shade? Morning or afternoon?

both will do fine in afternoon shade. I think the gold touch of holly will give you better color in that environment as long as it is getting 4-6 hours of sun. The sunshine ligustrum tends to get more green in a shade area.
