I set the refrigerator temperature to as cold as I can get it. I clean the house and get the laundry done. I cut the grass and put up all lawn furniture, garbage cans, flag, etc. I make bags of ice and freeze. Take a shower. Make sure prescriptions are filled. I also make a pot of coffee.

Good report on running fridge/freezer from generator...here in Louisiana during Hurricane Ida last year we were without electricity for almost 2 weeks...we had a small 5000 BTU window unit we put in the LR area & 2 fridge/freezers hooked to the generator...we ran the generator for 5 hours ON then 3-4 hours OFF and didn't run after midnight. We stayed pretty much in LR/kitchen area & shut all other doors...that small ac unit kept the house pretty comfortable & we didn't lose any food..

We were hit by Laura and Delta here in central Louisana. I`m on disability so I decided then and there to never get caught in a situation like that again and began investing in as many solar tools and batteries as possible. I started with power banks, rechargeable batteries, solar panels, then solar power stations and products that I can use with them, even cookers. My relatives have called me every name in the book for prepping. They laughed at me a year ago when I told them to buy extra food before prices rose. My sister is obsessed with expiration dates and hoarder TV shows though and when I had to stay with her while I went through the disability process she threw away every prepping item I was able to get. Lost all my seeds, rice, beans, grits, molasses, honey, sea salt...everything. She and my nephew have nearly drove me to a nervous breakdown because I`m building an emergency solar power system in my camper for hurricanes. I want independence, safety, security, low electric bills, and peace...and they can`t stand it. It amazes me. Unbelievable! She and my nephew live in two houses on the same big lot. Both are loaded with money but have absolutely no emergency supplies of any kind. Power goes out...they can`t cook anything and use cheap, low quality LED lanterns. They do have gas for heaters though...and during the Winter storm in 2021, even though they have an outdoor shed, coolers, tons of totes...all their food in two freezers and three refrigerators spoiled inside the house. Imagine that! I have solar power for my fridge and freezer and by May my window air conditioner will be running from the power of the sun using 780 watts of solar, my 300ah battery, a 60 amp MPPT charge controller, and a 2000 watt AC inverter. I need two more panels, a fuse bolt, ground wire, and a battery meter and it will be finished. A poor homeless dog showed up three weeks ago so I had to put off buying parts to help her with food, dog house, flea collar, and a blanket. They still don`t get it after the Winter storms and two hurricanes! They HOUND ME and call me names and laugh at me!
@baneverything5580
@baneverything5580 Жыл бұрын
@@kathym2501 You can power a chest freezer (manual defrost only) from a Bluetti EB70 for 24 hours or every day if it`s sunny if connected to two 100 watt solar panels connected in parallel. If it`s cloudy run a gas generator and recharge it in 4 hours. My 500 watt solar power stations run my 3.1 cubic ft manual defrost dorm fridge for 24 hours. I got two of each so I can charge the others while using the other two. I have no transportation, very rural area, so I invested in what I had to so I could have some security here. I was finally able to get a big 300 ah Ampere Time battery. By May I should have the two other solar panels and battery meter needed to run my small air conditioner from the sun. God I hope it works the right way. I want to be able to buy meat instead of paying for high electric bills that keep going up and not die after hurricanes.

Hi from Puerto Rico 🇵🇷, love your videos,. we just passed through hurricane fiona here and its really bad, no light, no water, had many flooding , people lost their homes and lost many of their furniture. We started preparing more when we went through Hurricane Maria. Got solar panels and a generator, prepped with food,water, supplies etc. For this hurricane found many holes in our preps so we are fixing that. Its not easy to go through a mayor hurricane even if you are prepared, but its bearable. Also you need entertainment because eventually you are going to get bored and frustrated 😞.

I actually started preparing my home for this storm. Friday. Along with your supplies. Most women make sure all laundry is done ahead floors are mopped dusting is done and things are put away inside the home. Plan for a game or movie to keep children busy and distracted the storm noises. Same for adults. If power does go out your favorite music helps. Or A car DVD player. To watch a movie or a movie projector to watch. Card games as simple as GO FISH! Some music and a puzzle. At my house we have to prepare for 2 weeks without power. Most of the time in a bad storm that's is how long it can take to restore power. 2 WEEKS!! Do not plan for only 1-2 days. Always plan for at least 4. If it doesn't happen great. If it does you have what you need to get you through. Also make sure chainsaws and lawnmowers are good to go. If you can have a small wagon on the back of lawnmower to pull around the yard to pick up debris. Saves your back and time in hot summer heat. And the gas and oil to run them. Already stuck back. If you ever go through 1 just 1 storm unprepared. You will swear. THAT WILL NEVER HAPPEN AGAIN!! AND MEAN IT!!

Good advice & some great products. Blessings from NW Florida here, ground zero for Hurricane Ivan in 2004 & Sally two years ago. Petsitting away from home for friends this weekend & really hoping my friends will come home early. Will be going home Monday to put our house in order, putting up the hurricane shutters, collecting the lawnchairs & other blowables under cover & weighted down, putting out hay & extra water & ID collars for the goats, prepping crates if needed for the cats & dog, staging our supplies, lights, headlamps, radios & ice chests ready if needed. We just charged all the solar phone chargers & the rechargeable batteries last week & checked the generator. Another tip.... wash all laundry & any dirty dishes 2 days before storm is due in your area.

Yep, we were 2 weeks without power in Ivan, really appreciated clean towels & multiple changes of clothing each day after working in sweltering heat & humidity. Always seems like the hurricanes suck all the breezes up for at least a few days after they pass & leave sticky, miserable conditions. We are more rural so also have to be aware of wildlife like snakes & big spiders being driven from their territories.

Also all of your photos and important family mementos put in something waterproof. Also with Harvey in Texss we had 54 in of rain... have a way to get in your attic. Thanks for the video. I'm in one of the red zone. For now. Your right about that, people are going crazy out there. And I'm at home like all I need is a few things and that's it. I have the same radio 📻 and I bought one for my mom in Puerto Rico and she love it.

The last hurricane took the power down for days. It was bloody hot. I was sitting on my radio listening to the power companies fix things which boosted my spirit... while sweating my balls off. This year.... fan with solar... along with some big projects.

We also keep. Blowup air mattresses. In case som family needs to evacuate. I can provide a bed for them. With sheets and a blanket for all. I cook a large casserole or 1 pot meal for everyone ahead of time. And plenty of snacks. Your extra hungry during these times of stress. Made a head of time helps the day after a storm so you then have a good heat and eat meal. While you are trying to clean up.

Hello Floridian friend ..Im so glad I prep ..Went to the store for storage stuff and snacks .... It was crazy no water no canned food, soups , little propane and camp stuff .. Also went to Home Depot in my area and window covering wood is almost gone everyone is panicking and rude... Ughhh gas station is packed ..People should know by now of Hurricane Season .. Why buy water when you can still use house water and water containers smh..Stay Safe ❤ I have too much glass in FL room off patio just protecting main living areas ... Fix the other later...I just have to organize plan where to go if gotta leave and get sand bags..Dont forget to mount and lock down generator people will be tempted to steal them..If you lose power remember deep freezer packed can wait 3 to 4 hrs without food waste...Great Advise you are sharing...No window screen duct tape and a bed sheet to keep bugs out...😂😂Ive seen the beer people out stocking

Good review of hurricane preps. I'm praying that Ian changes course and heads out to sea. For years I stacked sandbags the wrong way, then saw a video on how they should be done. You only fill a bag half way, lay it down, and the next filled bags gets laid on the empty part of the previous bag. Repeat. It keeps water from leaking through. Be safe and God bless.💜✝

If you do live where it may flood. Keep a large pool mattress float to help bring out items you need to stay dry or place small children on to float them out one for each child. Or will help get your elderly out.

If you have little one they love flash lights...lol and will go thru batteries quickly... Party stores sell Chem lights cheap....50 cents or 1 dollar.. they can run and spin them and even take to bed... we hang one from ceiling fan blade to light up room... I get white or yellow they give out more light....Great video... stay safe

I like getting a gallon plastic bag, fill it with water, put it inside another one. Lay it over your food in the freezer, it molds around the food to keep everything frozen longer. Also if you can't reach someone by calling, try texting. Sometimes it's easier to get through by text.

I'm just north of Tampa and have done as much as I can. We are all set. We have family that have evacuated to our house to ride out the storm. They all joked before about all my preps. They aren't joking about them any more. Good luck to us all.

If you get plywood cut to fit your windows. Lowe's also sells metal clips to fit the plywood. Placem them on the edges of the plywood. The tooth like edges of the clips will bite into your brick or what ever surrounds your window and hold the plywood into place. You may have to ask for the clips. They are a little pricey. But makes the process of putting the plywood into place and taking down much easier and faster. When you are done. Label the plywood for each piece for each window. And mark top and bottom. Save these for later use. And your clips. Since the wood totally blocks your view. I leave one small window. Open. To see outside. That is just my preference!! You do what is safe for you!! I have a small kitchen window on the back side of my home. I leave it unblocked to see all of my back yard sky and trees. I watch how bad the tree tops are whipping around to kind of judge the winds outside. That is just me!! You do what is best for you and your situation and family.

SOLAR RECHARGEABLE OUTDOOR LIGHTS. The dollar store usually sells them. They will illuminate walking paths and help you avoid outdoor hazards. Or you can let them charge and bring them inside at night if you need background room lighting. Obviously you don't want to leave them stuck in the ground pre-storm as they will turn into projectiles.

I noticed the same thing. I have everything already. Just got some crackers and breads since my mother in law will come to our house I'm sure. Oh THANK you I forgot I have 2 rechargeable fans I need to charge. Every spring I stock for hurricane season. I don't wait for one to come. But not I'm stocked always..

Yes, many new people to Florida listen to this video. October 7, 2016, my family lived through & had damage and power outage from Hurricane Matthew. It was a Category 5, but when it hit my area it was a Category 2. This Category 2 ripped off my concreted in heavy duty patio cover along the entire length of the back of my house. Winds and a tree limb destroyed our roof. Thankful for great homeowners insurance. Don’t play with a hurricane just because it’s “just” a category 2. Florida is prepared for fast with getting people back on electricity and other help, but you will have downtime. Other states bring a ton of help for electricity, etc., just like we do for them when they need help. Prepare!
