I run these on EVERY tank with seachem de*nitrate set on low flow making a powerfully effective denitrification machine. My nitrate problem was resolved within 3 or 4 months. Can't beat the price and so far they have all ran flawlessly. I test my water once a week and the nitrates are always low now even on heavily stocked tanks. I've been able to cut back on water changes with addition of these filters. Cheers

One of the keys I read in a few places is to lube the seal when doing maintenance on the canister. By doing so you keep the seal pliable so it does not disintegrate. Some have used a little vasoline on it. Also still a small hole in the intake tube, reason for this is if the canister fails it will not flood your floor. The small hole should be made about an inch or so below the water line. If the canister starts to leak out siphoning out your tank water when the water level drops below the hole it will break the suction stopping the flow and not empyting your tank on to the floor. Another informative vid brother.

@jensenbeachjay4 жыл бұрын
Great tip, BUT you shouldn't use Vaseline on on rubber seals or gaskets as it's petroleum based. The proper lube is silicone based. Use super lube or a pool-light grease (which will be a silicone base as well), as this will not degrade the rubber gasket over time.

2020 update on the B series (the one with the pump): Just because the description says it comes with certain things, you should expect it to be missing some items that you will have to buy elsewhere. I bought this accidentally during lockdown thinking I was buying the one without a pump and it was missing everything but the tubing and two sponge filters. Don't waste your time trying to get the missing items, they will never come. After reading through literally 200 plus comments I found several old comments that said you will not get the missing pieces. This applies to Amazon purchases. Hope that helps. Hello! I recently bought a sunsun 603B canister. Im using stainless steel lily pipes with skimmer on my 10 gallon tank. Currently, from the top going down to the pump, I have lava rocks in mesh bag, lava rings and then lastly the white filter foam. The skimmer at the moment is not sucking as much as I hoped it would. I have to leave about 1/8 open down below the inflow so that the skimmer works. However, it is still not sucking enough. My question is, how do I resolve this? The skimmer works amazing when the inflow below is fully closed, but im worried about the debris under the tank wont get sucked up. Thank you!

@TheWaterBox7 жыл бұрын

I am looking to get one of these for a 10 gallon planted tank. I am worried that the reports of a weak pump may cause issues with an inline c02 atomizer. Do you think i could run an inline c02 atomizer with this canister filter?
@TheWaterBox4 жыл бұрын
It shouldn't matter with an inline atomizer... What matters in this case for an inline atomizer is the amount of psi coming out of your co2 regulator. I would worry for an inline reactor though. An atomizer will already create the tiny bubbles when it gets into the hose. The pump at this point pumps the bubbles out to the tank. It doesn't nothing else. With a higher gph flow though, it will help to diffuse the bubbles a little more though but that's about it. Many reactors rely on the gph on a pump to power a propeller or some kind of mechanism that depends on the power of the flow to diffuse the co2.

No, it's way too small. For a 75 gallon, try the Sunsun Hw304B. You want something with at least 450gph. 500gph to be safe to clear any length of the hose form the filter to the tank to get at least 6x the flow rate in your tank.

Great review Chung, very informative. I have been considering the Sunsun, but now I'm not so sure. Although, I do have a rimless tank I made that I could use one on. So far I'm not too fond of canister filters. I have a Fluval 305 that does not like coming apart for service. I broke the latch on it trying to get it to separate. Maybe the newer models come apart easier.
@TheWaterBox8 жыл бұрын
Yeh, the fluval 305 is kinda a pain. I used to use the older model of the 305 13 years ago. They work, just a pain to take apart. How big is your tank? The sunsun 302 or larger models are way easier to deal with. I'll have a review of that one later. The 602/603 are quite simple and easy to maintain. It's just cheaply made. :/ The bigger models are made much better.
@beyondthetank81928 жыл бұрын
The rimless is a 40 gallon and I'm debating between a DIY sump above the tank or a canister filter. Possibly both because I intend to keep Plecos and I find they can be a bit dirty. It's in a small fish room I set up so a sump above the tank won't be too obtrusive and the advantage is I can access the media for cleaning very quickly and easily.
@TheWaterBox8 жыл бұрын
Ah yeh for a 40, you'd go with the 302 or bigger then. And that is made way better than the small 602/603 and they work great. Good flow for a 40g. I like the above sump. I plan on doing that with one of my tanks to grow plants on top as well as for addition filtration. I'd go for both. Can't have too much filtration. Well, you can but a canister and above sump isn't too much.
@tthimsel4 жыл бұрын
Thanks a lot for your amazing videos :) I would like to ask a question. How would you setup HW-602 (without pump) as a prefilter in regards to intake? I have seen that it is suggested for 602B-603B as the intake is coming into the canister from top and returning from the bottom back to the aquarium. However, a couple of people who used HW-602/603 as a prefilter is suggesting it from bottom to top somehow. Does that make sense for you? And, one more question just came to my mind. HW-602 hose is 16mm whereas my Eheim Ecco Pro 200 is using 12mm hose. I would need to use a 12-to-16mm adapter for intake into SunSun canister and then a 16-to-12mm adapter for return from SunSun to Eheim Canister if I wanna use it as a prefilter. Do you think this would cause any issues? Thank you in advance.
@TheWaterBox4 жыл бұрын
I would hook up the 602/603 from top toe bottom, going into the actual filter (in one of my cases, a 302) and then from there back out to the tank. On the 16mm to 12mm is fine.It's not going to do anything really other than limit your flow to a 12mm tubing and the flow of your eheim canister. I'm assuming your hose length frmo the filter to the tank isn't like 20 feet long or anything?
@tthimsel4 жыл бұрын
@@TheWaterBox Thanks a lot :) Nope, it is just around 1 meter, I guess. I can even place SunSun 602 on a higher level than Eheim. I hope it will not reduce the flow rate significantly.

As a pre-filter? It'll be too small for a 80 gallon tank as a filter by itself!

Ok will use as a pre filter. Thank you

how do you disconnect the output for filter maintenance
@TheWaterBox7 жыл бұрын
You have to unhinge and remove the output pipe from the tank so it doesn't siphon out the water. To make it easy, you can always get your own quick disconnect ball valve and install it after the pump and hose to where it outlets into the tank so call you have to is close it and disconnect the quick disconnect. but that might be more than it's worth the trouble and costs if you're just running one or two tanks.

I'm looking to buy one of these for a 45g goldfish tank. I already have an aquaclear 110 (500gph) on it. Is there any point in doing that, or should I go one size up?
@TheWaterBox7 жыл бұрын
I'd go a size up to the 302.
@TheWaterBox7 жыл бұрын
Wait, you aquaclear 110 should be more than enough for your 45g. That's 11 cycles for a HOB filter so should be more than enough. No reason to get another filter unless you want a back up or something.

Hi, nice video. I have query. Sunsun HBL802 hanging canister and Sunsun 603B, which one is best for small tank like 45-50 litre? I would like to add biological media as well. Please guide.

I don't know much about the HBL802 but the 602B is great and give you tons of space for bio media.

My 603B is causing micro bubbles. Any suggestions how to get rid of them?

Sounds like you have air pockets in the filter. Try shaking it little and see if helps get rid of it. Any leaks anywhere? Maybe from the seals?

@TheWaterBox5 жыл бұрын
You might. You just load it up with just bio media and mechanical (sponges or floss) and change the pump to something that is pushing at least 140 gph you might be able to do it.

@@TheWaterBox what pump can you recommend to me to replace the stock pump? :)
@TheWaterBox5 жыл бұрын
You would have to find something that's an external pump. I'd just search amazon and make sure it'll fit the hose. If you get the 603, it would be 3/4" hoses (It should be), if it's the 603b, it would be 1/2 " hoses

im lost, so 603b is just mainly used for pre-filter?
@TheWaterBox5 жыл бұрын
Usually but I usually get the b if I want to install a more powerful pump because of the fitting will allow me to do that. If you get the A the fitting for the filter doesn't allow you to easily just hook up a hose between the filter and custom pump.

what co2 external reactor is best for that canister filter?
@TheWaterBox6 жыл бұрын
I'd always go with an inline mister myself but some people don't like it cause it "sprites" your tank. Depends on your canister filter. Some external reactors require high GPH so you need to read the product info. What works good is doing up a DIY external reactor where the co2 is injected into the chamber and the flow of the filter will push the co2 through bio balls (or something similar) to promote diffusion into the water before it gets into your tank.
