Lysterfield Lake
Want to stand up paddle on Lysterfield Lake? In this video we check out this beautiful Lake, exploring the best places to park your car and launch your stand up paddle board.
We’ve been using our stand up paddleboards for just over a year now and we are totally addicted! In this channel we share with you our journey as we answer all the questions we have had as beginners to the world of stand up paddling.
This video is part of our ‘locations’ playlist, where we keep all of our reviews of locations for stand up paddling across Melbourne and Victoria. Eventually we will head interstate and overseas.
Lysterfield Lake is known as one of the best lakes to swim in Victoria. It is located 43km east from Melbourne CBD. On a calm day, the lake is a perfect place to refine your stand-up paddle boarding.
The beaches have gentle waters and a gradual increase in depth, making them ideal for launching and a great place for a beginner to build confidence.
There is lots to explore on the large lake. View waterbirds and habitat that can't be seen from land. The 82ha lake is used for non-powered boating and sailing. There is a parking zone which allows you to unpack your boards close to the boat ramp, but you need to move your car to the nearby car parks once you are offloaded.
As rivers, lakes and reservoirs are natural environments, you may encounter hazards. Follow our water safety advice to make sure your day out at Lysterfield Park is a safe and enjoyable one.
In terms of amenities, there is ample car parking, but best to get in early as on the weekends this is a very popular spot for mountain bikers. It’s also calmer and much quieter early in the morning.
There are toilets and a few picnic tables here and there. Careful where you put your picnic rug though, as the area has many Kangaroos and they leave lots of surprises on the ground! If you are lucky you will see some very large roos jumping through the area while you are there!
After you have built up an appetite on your board, you will find a new cafe, The Orchard at Montague, on the left just after you exit the park.
