We stand up paddle at Lillydale Lake, Victoria, Australia, 34km north-east of Melbourne.
Before we start, Simon and I would like to acknowledge the traditional owners of these lands, the The Wurundjeri people of the Kulin Nation and pay our respect to their elders, past, present and emerging. We reflect on their deep and continuing connection to this land as we walk these sands and paddle off these shores.
You'll notice the spelling of this large lake in the middle of Lilydale has an extra 'l' in it. It was apparently named after a popular song in the mid-19th century called Lilly Dale.
Launch Location Location:
Enter via Lillydale Lake Rd which is off Swansea Road.
There is lot’s of car parking but head for the carpark closest to the boat ramp.
We launch off the jetty adjacent to the carpark and boat ramp on the left of the lake.
Get here early if you enjoy peace and quiet, it is a very popular area with families.
There are toilets, walking tracks and we saw a food van there as well.
Lots of post-paddle cafes nearby too. Head to Lilydale and you will find a few great cafes close together, including Round Bird Can’t Fly and Locavore, both highly rated.
