We stayed at the Plantation Island Resort on Malolo Lailai, a family friendly resort. It's a 15 minute boat ride to the breaks around Namotu and Tavarua and quite a bit less expensive if you are on a budget, I recommend it if you are traveling with kids: www.plantationisland.com

Yes, its pricey but both Tavarua and Namotu sound amazing if you can swing it.
