mostly came here to see if sup boards also work well for wave surfing, since my housmated threw out all of my surf gear because they said it took up to much space(even though threwing it out caused there to be even less space since my surfboards when not in use where used kind of like storage racks with all kinds of stuff from many people on them, which now just forms a huge pile on the ground since there is no rack anymore to put it on, had some housemates who went through a spring cleaning pannick wave. that said won't get back a similar surf collections since that would be way to expensive and risk it being thrown out again without any consent and many of my boards where custom made boards with custom paintjobs, racing boards, etc. also not only for wave surfing but also for wind surfing). however wanted to see if those boards work kind of for surfing, have some idea for wind surfing, so now the idea is to get a supboard which I can use like a small boat, supboard, surf board(wave, and optimally also wind), etc.

I'm trying to learn how to do this, and I appreciate the advice. One thing I've noticed is that when I paddle very hard on one side of the board to catch a wave, it starts to turn. I've been trying to anticipate that by starting to paddle for the wave while the board is parallel to the wave. By the time the wave arrives, the board has turned straight towards the shore and I have a better chance of catching it. Timing the whole thing is tricky though. Sometimes it doesn't turn enough and I miss the wave. Other times it turns too much and I miss the wave.

Hi David. This is a hard thing to get right. What we will do is make a video for you, I'm sure many other paddlers would find it very useful too. 'How to paddle straight to catch a wave'. We will start working on this video very soon. There are a few simple tips that will help you. Subscribe and keep an eye out for it. Thanks Reuben

Hey, is the board, you are using in the video, especially for sup and surfing or just a "normal" surfboard or a "normal" sup board? I am thinking about buying board for sup for my vacation, including a week at the sea and other lakes. Thanks for your response and keep uploading videos!

Hi Leo, thanks for asking. We have some other videos to look at for getting into SUP stance. supboardermag.com/what-are-you-interested-in/?_keywords=surf+stance We'd suggest some land training using balance tools or using a bigger board to get started as this helps with balance. A key tip would be to keep your knees bent, keep your chest low and weight up your front foot. Hope these tips help you next time. Thanks, Beau

So you guys are right on... NOT ONCE DID YOU SWEEP while surfing the wave. Big point beginners. When your riding do not sweep or paddle/hack as your on the wave. YOU ARE not going to gain speed.Yes you can paddle to connect a section. But please surf the wave do not sweep it..Great beginner video.

I hear you David, yes many beginners do tend to do this. TBH because you have highlighted this maybe we could also make a video to talk about this more. Thanks Reuben

Can I do this with the inflatable SUP? 11' length 32" wide? It is an all around board I bought on amazon
@SUPboardermag4 жыл бұрын
Yes you can. Tip for you is...move your bodyweight a little bit further back ie, just behind the handle. This will help an iSUP Initiate the back and Fin of the board which will make it easier to surf when you start. Also watch this video of ours kzbin.info/www/bejne/oXS6mKmIrpaBnLM . How do inflatable SUP‘s handle the ocean?
@SUPboardermag3 жыл бұрын
Het Russ. Inflatables (iSUPs) handle open seas quality well. But a stiffer inflatable SUP will feel much nicer then an iSUP that bends more. Nose shape also makes a difference to how the board handles ocean conditions. They wont feel as nice as a hard composite board but the better iSUPs on the market do work well in most conditions. Thanks Reuben.
@russguerra3 жыл бұрын
What about a $800 18psi inflatable sup? Is that good enough for the ocean?
@SUPboardermag3 жыл бұрын
A board that takes 18psi will probably have a good amount of stiffness and be fine for most open ocean paddling conditions. Thanks Reuben

Don't forget to start with an inflatable USP. Why? Do you want to loose a couple of teeth when you fall and hit your face on a hard board? Of course no...So use an inflatable for practice, they are quite "cheap" and very close to a hardboard...
@SUPboardermag3 жыл бұрын
You are right that using and inflatable paddleboard is better if you end up hitting it. But the ironic thing is it's actually harder to catch waves and control the board when on a wave, then using a harder composite board because of the lack of rail shape and bottom rocker. So you will end up failing off more on a iSUP. But yes if you want to be safer going do the iSUP route is best. Good comment. Thanks Reuben Ps if anybody wants any tips to catching waves with an iSUP this video will help kzbin.info/www/bejne/oXS6mKmIrpaBnLM
