One thing that always stuck with me is in the basketball scene with Tyler. If you fail it and Tyler's depression meter depletes completely, he will go home and self delete with the conclusion of "that's where my story ends." I've never seen such a hilariously EXTREME ending to a basketball mini game! I might be misremembering though. Anyways, thanks for this great nostalgia trip!

Something that just hit me: this is a supernatural murder mystery that slowly mutates into the dumbest fantasy action schlock garbage ever, made by a weird foreign nerd who puts in a billion references to things he likes. This game is the evil Deadly Premonition. Take all the charm, humor, and any kind of real gameplay out of DP and this is what you'd end up with.

I have seen this playthrough maybe 5 times throughout my life. I have no fucking clue about some of the plot holes in this game. I don't understand the fucking giant termite attack on the office. Why does he suddenly know how to kung Fu a helicopter? Who the fuck was driving the car? Why use a man's apartment to attack him when you can send the termites to eat him? I can't believe this man went on to keep making games. It's admirable but also fucking ludicrous

That's what I've noticed about this game in particular. There's SO MUCH useless bullshit in this story that ends up going nowhere and adds nothing to the plot or narrative. Why? Because of Mr. Kajay's love for stupid plot twists that only exist to be plot twists while also retroactively ruining massive chunks of his own story! Seriously damn near EVERY GAME he's made has at least one of those things in their stories.

Man, making fun of David Cage's failure to be a game designer wouldn't be nearly as funny if he didn't repeatedly make a scene about having disdain for video game conventions. Imagine making a video game, but at every turn you're saying "but we're not making a dumb video game, we're making real art like a movie", then sticking floating power ups in your game anyway. Kojima is another Dev who reaaaally wants to get into movies, but he never loses sight of the fact that he's making games and they should be fun to play. For all of Death Strandings weird plot stuff, it is an actual video game with actual game mechanics that makes it playable.

​@@cthulhuhoops I liked Indigo Prophecy until it got batshit. Still fun, but at that point I'm enjoying it for the same reason I enjoy schlocky B-movies. While Death Stranding isn't for everyone, personally I enjoyed the slow pace and atmosphere, and the game gradually picks up the pace as you go, it doesn't stay that slow the whole playthrough.

While absolutely self indulgent I do feel like Kojima’s cameos in Peace Walker, V and others are a bit better done. They’re more like “Oh hey! That dude who puts his name all over the credits for a couple seconds” rather than “Welcome to my *movie* where I will take up the first couple minutes to be a tutorial then dance with a bunch of half naked versions of my female characters!”

I still find it baffling the waitress at the bar for the murder didn't see him pay his tab and leave. In game I likely would've saved hours on hours of already broken immersion, not having to sit through UNTIL the ridiculous matrix-battle. Even without the matrix scene there are the random bugs falling from the ceiling or the entire room trying to kill you before becoming nothingness. Not sure why you want to wait until the matrix scene but you do you oh optimistic one. 👍
