For me the biggest flaw of the film is that the marketing builds up all these robots, but they all get wrecked almost immediately and Gypsy Danger is the only one that actually accomplishes anything. Even the player 2 Australian robot's biggest contribution to the final fight was self-destructing.

At the same time, if Gypsy had been alone, it probably would have wound up destroyed. That, and the point of the movie was that the Jaegers are all powerful, and that the last four are the best, but even that doesn't save them from how bullshit the newest Kaiju are. No way to predict an EMP, or acid

Not necessarily. There are theaters out there that don't start showing movies until a few weeks after they've come out. There's a theater about a half hour drive from my house that only started screening the film last week. In all seriousness though, Pacific Rim is very much a movie that you have to watch in theater at least once. It just won't be the same on DVD.

Most of the movie's development was done by del toro and IOM. Del Toro stated in the Pacific Rim Featurette - Digital Artistry (you can look it up). "every single piece of color and light is directed" meaning that everything is specifically placed in the movie. This high level of animating obiviously has to take a WHILE to do. In total we just have to wait because they have definitely gotten back the 190 million they put in it and then some, and they're still gonna get much more outta it

No, it just reflects a different cultural mind-set than the one currently occupying the majority of the American zeitgeist. It's kind of a cultural fusion. So, it's easy to see why someone lacking exposure to, or interest in, Japanese culture, kaiju culture and/or giant-robot anime wouldn't be interested. It filters into society, but it's not quite mainstream; it doesn't talk to everyone. It still kicks ass. We're still getting a sequel. Fantastic! :D

Guys, there's an old PS2 game. S'called War of the Monsters. If you have the ability to play such a game, you should try to get your hands on it. You mentioned not many games have buildings coming down around you during a fight. Well it has kaiju, giant robots, destructible terrain, you can use buildings like weapons, and it has multiplayer. And it was made by the Twisted Metal guys. Probably cheap as all hell, too. Worth looking into, if you feel up to trusting a random dude from the internet.
