Have you ever watched the original remake by Hammer movies, where Christopher Lee is Dracula? Such sweet music they make." His Hungarian accent was awesome!!

I'm sorry, but if I would've met Sir Christopher Lee when he was alive, I would've talked Tolkien with him. He was a renowned Tolkien scholar, actually personally knew Professor Tolkien, and was the only person who had the Professors permission to play a character from the books, if it was ever adapted. Tolkien wanted him to be Gandalf, but Sir Lee thought Ian McKellen was better, so he played Sauroman.

I love Super Castlevania 4, but I think the things I dislike about it the most are: 1) an abundance of boss fights that are easy or do not require critical thinking (There are exceptions). 2) THE BUZZSAW LEVEL (Screw that!). 3) some stiffness with the controls (minuet but noticeable). 4) lack of checkpoints in suitable areas. 5) sometimes the background palettes seemed too vibrant. These are just opinions, still love the game and is actually my 2nd favorite SNES title (after Super Metroid), but had some complaints, and wanted to see if anyone agreed with me. This seemed like the appropriate forum.

Super Castlevania IV is not only one of the best Castlevania games (Dracula X on the Turbo/PC Engine CD gives it a run for its money and I don't like calling it "Rondo", I've always just called it Dracula X) it's also one of the best 16-bit games in existence. And there are a crap-ton of awesome 16-bit games. Damn that was a fine time to enjoy videogames. I'm glad I can still enjoy them today and that the game systems still work perfectly well. It makes me wonder if stuff like Xbox 360 or PS3 will ever be looked at with the same kind of nostalgia. "Holy crap dude. Remember all o' them Call of Duties? That was a hell of a time 2 be a gamer. Thems were teh dayz." I guess we'll have to wait and see.

If you call it Dracula x people think you mean that mediocre snes "port" though. Castlevania iv might be a more fair platforming experience but rondo of blood captures the castlevania experience better, while not being quite as unfair as the nes games. Some of the Rondo Dracula x of blood sound effects really suck though which is odd, Dracula x on snes actually had better sound effects. It's a moot point though because gran turismo 6 is the best castlevania game.

Such a classic. One of the earliest games for the SNES, and was better than many of the later games for the system. The playcontrol, graphics, sound, and level design were all top notch. Also, did you know the game is in stereo? The SNES component cable (yellow for video, red for right audio, white for left audio) could be hooked into a stereo system pretty easily. Those gigantic chandeliers you walk on had separate sound effects for swinging left and right; they sounded the same in mono-audio, but in stereo you'd hear them swinging side to side. Game was years ahead of its time.

For me, Super Castlevania IV will always be a remarkable game! It's not only my fav game in the series, but also one of my top-fav games of all time, period! The graphics are appealing and beautiful, the gameplay is fluid and responsive, the enemies are great, the soundtrack is fantastic (I listen to it quite often) - everything about it is just awesome! It holds up excellently, and I still play it at least a couple times every year... The ONLY negative I can think about is the framerate drops when there's too much for the console to handle on-screen at once; besides that, it's like a perfect game to me. What's also impressive is it came out during the very early days of the SNES, and it's still one of the best experiences on the console.

I feel like I'm alone in saying this, but I think CV64 should get more credit than it does. The controls are the biggest stumbling block (people get really caught off guard by the need to press and hold to climb ledges) but I honestly think it does *a lot* to give you a really cool atmosphere. The bits just outside and then in the castle really make you feel like there's a very foreboding air about the place, from the sewers to the hedge maze and so on. CV64 isn't CV4 and it isn't SOTN but I still think it's enjoyable in its own right.

Ivan orozco Glad to know there's someone else out there who loves those ones enough to keep playing. In fact, if i had my N64 still I would most likely have played them again very recently.

Legacy of Darkness was the better version of the game, though.

I love the game, but Rondo of Blood (PC Engine) is even more epic!

Yeah I recent played through castlevania 4 and Rondo back to back, rondo is just a much better game. The problem is we never got it in the us until 2009 or something. I wish I was aware of that game as a kid, I would have found some way to get an import copy lol.

***** I personally don't think that it's better than Castlevania IV. Castlevania IV's atmosphere can't be surpassed in my opinion by any other Castlevania game. You definitely should check Rondo of Blood though, it's the direct prequel of Symphony of the Night. If you don't own a PC Engine with the CD-ROM add-on and you don't speak Japanese, I recommend you to play it on PSP. The Castlevania-Dracula X Chronicles for PSP includes also Syphony of the Night and Rondo of Blood (translated) and it's much cheaper.

You really don't need to know Japanese to play Chi no Rondo. You'll miss a small bit of dialog though you can probably look up a translation easily. The menus are in English. I'm not recommending people go out and buy a Duo just for this game, but if you already have one and don't mind spending the dollars for a great game, this one won't disappoint.

Some of the best music ever to grace the SNES. I played the heck out of this game when it came out. Good times. Thanks for the memories, J&M! Time to break out my copy! Glad I still have all my old systems & games. :)

This is a game that could have benefited from a DSP chip. Has anyone tried playing this on an overclocked SNES? I think Nintendo should offer an option on SNES virtual console games to eliminate slowdown. Much like M2 does with Metal Slug 2 on the Neo-Geo Station release. It would really make a big difference with games like this, Gradius III, Super Ghouls 'N Ghosts, where the slowdown is severe.

DSP chip would be useless. if you OC the SNES the game would run faster the higher you set the CPU, but it will still lag due to the limits on sprites per scan line. coding back then there was no real time it cpu's didnt need delta time since they were so slow. coding then was not standardized, but now they have standard game engine, and coding languages are managed.

SuperDeluxe80 Why would a DSP chip be useless in speeding up mode7 type effects? Surely if it were built from the ground up to use a DSP chip.FX chip, it would help. The FX2 chip allows large sprites to be moved very quickly in Yoshi's Island. There were attempts at overclocking the SNES, but they always resulted in gfx glitching. The Motorola 68k was successfully overclocked in both the Neo-Geo and Genesis. They definitely do improve with games such as Sonic The Hedgehog (no more slowdown when losing rings) and with Metal Slug 2 on the Neo.. it removes nearly all of the horrendous slowdown.

videogameobsession just tossing a chip into the game wont do anything they would have to reprogram the game. you cant just add a chip then magic happens. it wont happen though snes has long been dead. emulated games dont run the same as there console counterparts the timing is different. and somethings wont work the same. OC'ing a old game system in this era speeds up the game not make it run better. its like hitting fast foward. it just speeds up the game

I wasn't talking about just tossing a chip into it, which is why I said this " Surely if it were built from the ground up to use a DSP chip." I'm also not talking about emulation overclocking. I am talking about replacing the timing crystal on real hardware. My friend OC'd his Genesis and it makes a difference with many games. Same thing with the Neo-Geo.

videogameobsession i like the slow down effect i think its cool even though it is a glitch the developers knew they were pushing the limits of the console and still chose not to dull down the game to improve frame rate and it doesnt hurt the game at all it also holds a level of nostalgia for the original consoles
