Super Cheap and Easy Homemade Bird Toys!

TIPS BELOW - Make your own bird toys at home whether you are waiting for ones you ordered, want to include some new toys for your bird, or just feel like getting creative. The possibilities are endless just remember to use natural materials that are fun to destroy!
Tips to keep in mind when making your own toys:
1. Be mindful of the toy size, it should be appropriate for your bird (small vs big birds)
2. Ropes or string should be short in all parts of the toy - the thinner the string or rope the shorter it needs to be to ensure your bird won't get entangled in it. You can also loop the string through a paper straw as we did with one of the DIY toys to ensure the string is out of reach from your birdie. If you can find a thicker natural rope that would be great!
3. All wood materials should be non-toxic!
4. Avoid plastics and materials with any dyes or chemicals
5. Feel free to supervise your bird when playing with homemade toys

Don’t use yarn, it Can cause crop impaction. Use jute, sisal or paper twine instead. But, these are sick good ideas!!

Good idea about the yarn! Thank you for mentioning this! We are aware of these complications and we should have mentioned it so we will do another video about safe materials in the future. We did use this because that was all that was available to us on the small island we are on but we only let him use these toys under our supervision until our toy orders came in :) yay! All that string so bad😭 Many years ago my bird was almost strangled to death after getting untangled in the loosened string. Fortunately my mom was able to stay calm and carefully untangle him. It was a terrible shock but so happy he survived to live to a ripe old age. But I will NEVER allow my bird to every have a length of anything he could inadvertently tangle himself in no matter how safe it may appear!!

Yes the string is not the best option, as shown in the video we used it in a way where there’s not much sticking out and we supervised Mango with these ones. We used to live on a small island so there wasn’t much in the stores, fortunately now we have better access to materials and have learned a lot more along the way so we have talked about avoiding string and rope in other videos and mention safety tips in the description of this video. // We are very happy to read that your bird was okay!!🙏🏼🙏🏼 we have also stopped using string or rope and stick to natural materials for toys.

These are great ideas but I would suggest something other than that yard to string to together like a natural jute rope or something of thst assortment. You've inspired me to make some toys though, thank you!

Absolutely many other nuts are much better options - cashews almonds pistachios walnuts sunflower seeds safflower seeds etc but with that being said a tiny bit of homemade natural peanut butter is okay to share with your birdie once in a while😊😊

Aw, we are sorry to hear that! Don't get discouraged, sometimes they don't turn out the way we want them to, you can always try again and get creative with using different bird safe items around the house. I will make another video on this topic soon with better toy ideas for fun destruction for our birds :)
