Thank you so much your video are so educational and I learned so much from you can you tell me if at night time do you leave the dried food in the cadge or take it out so they can eat the chop in the morning I’m about to get a 12 weeks old baby green conure . Hope to hear from you
@PoodlesandParrots13 сағат бұрын
Thank you so much for your kind words! I’m so glad you’re finding the videos helpful-congratulations on getting a baby green conure! 🥰 At night, any fresh or perishable food (like chop)should be removed, but you can leave a small amount of dried food preferably pellets in their cage. That way, they’ll have something to nibble on if they wake up early before you serve fresh food. I leave pellets for Mia 😊 you can also check out episodes 34 and 38 of The Parrot Podcast ;; we discussed this and pellets in more detail with Dr Octavio.

@@BrOcKiSaLaMa Any enclosed space can encourage hormonal behaviour, especially if it resembles a nesting site. Birds like sun conures naturally seek out cozy, enclosed spaces when they feel hormonal or in breeding mode. It might be a good idea to replace the pipe with an open sleeping perch or a flat platform to discourage nesting instincts. Our sun conure will not just bite. He will attack you if you open a drawer, a jar with a black lid or if you comb your hair.
@PoodlesandParrots11 күн бұрын
Sun conures/Conures can be surprisingly territorial or reactive to specific objects or actions-it’s often their way of expressing fear, excitement, or protecting their space. You might try gradual desensitization by introducing those triggers slowly and associating them with positive reinforcement, like treats or praise. Over time, this can help reduce those aggressive reactions. Avoiding those specific triggers is also a solution, for example, keep your sun conure in their cage or in another room with someone else while you comb your hair in the washroom. Sometimes it’s easier to work around their sensitivities to keep the peace.

You have to feed baby sun conure (25/30 days old) three to four times a day, you have to feed them 10 ml (sometimes 12 ml is okay, BUT NOT MORE THAN THAT, as over feeding can create digestive issues) of handfeeding formula through a syringe. If you are handfeeding 4 times a day, make sure there is minimum 4 hours gap, if you are handfeeding 3 times a day, make sure there is minimum 6 hours gap before handfeeding the baby again. Before handfeeding the baby, make sure his crop is completely empty or almost empty. Make sure you feed your baby slowly slowly and from the left side of his beak, and make sure there are no bubbles in the syringe. If any of this is not followed, handfeeding formula can stick into his lungs and it can cause respiratory infection/ pneumonia. Which is 95% fatal for baby bird. I feed them nutribird A19 handfeeding formula. Hope this helps!

I tried to make a chop but it’s really mushy and watery what do I do with it now😭😭
@PoodlesandParrots16 күн бұрын
@@MiLoAAA you can add something to absorb the moisture like ground flaxseeds! This is why I prefer to not freeze and thaw chop anymore because its colder and can get watery depending on what’s in the chop🥹🥲

@PoodlesandParrots thank u! I was thinking about adding rice. Is that a good choice or no?
@PoodlesandParrots14 күн бұрын
@@MiLoAAA I don't see why not, mixing in dry ingredients like cooked quinoa or rice, or even oats can help to absorb the extra moisture. You can also strain it with a fine mesh strainer or cheesecloth to get rid of the excess liquid. Some veggies with high water content can make parrot chop watery, especially when freezing and thawing so just be mindful of those for future chops :)

Second problem.... I got Doc as a baby and had not much experience with birds. One day playing in the bed he got sight of my red toenails and bit it, drawing a bit of blood. My partner and I instantly agreed that it was not a good idea and I have never let him near my feet again. But almost 10 years later he still rushes to try to get to my toes. I have been nice but insistent that he is not allowed to bite my toes but he is STILL trying. How do I stop this behavior other than wearing shoes all the time? Please advise.
@reneem.592724 күн бұрын
Hello! I have a 10 year old Sun Conure named "Doc Holiday" the most loving creature you can imagine. My life situation has changed and I was worried about him getting lonely as I am busy most of the day though I always make some time for him each afternoon. I was concerned about him being alone so much so about 18 months ago I contacted the breeder I got Doc from and requested a companion female bird for him. He sent me a 7 year old female and they seem to get along just fine. Doc never has any pin feathers any more so I know she is grooming him. Problem is I think she has some psychological damage. Regardless of my best efforts she will never allow me to touch her. She panics screams and flys around the cage to the farthermost corner from me. I never force the issue always talk sweet to her and have tried everything to even get her to step up on my finger to no avail. She sees Doc do it several times a day, but she acts like her life is threatened every time I go near her. She isn't interested in food bribes or anything. I am thinking to just leave her to herself but I would much rather have her be friendly and come out of the cage peacefully. Any suggestions?
@PoodlesandParrots20 күн бұрын
Regarding your shy female, it’s possible her fear stems from past experiences, and building trust may take a lot of patience. One approach is to spend time near her cage without attempting direct interaction-just talk softly or read aloud to get her comfortable with your presence. Offering treats through the bars at a safe distance can also help her associate you with positive experiences. Respect her boundaries and celebrate small wins, like her staying calm when you’re nearby. With time, she may begin to feel safe enough to engage more. My parrot Ruth started to attack my male Hercules two days ago while he was giving food to the 34 day old babies and I just didn't know what to do but separate them all minus the smallest and today I put my Hercules and Ruth together and neither takes care of the smallest baby while the other two new babies have learned to eat on their own. Plus Ruth has 4 more eggs that's she's not paying attention to. Any ideas of what I can do?
@PoodlesandParrots20 күн бұрын
I recommend consulting an avian veterinarian or an experienced bird behaviourist as soon as possible. They can provide guidance on addressing Ruth’s aggression, caring for the youngest baby, and managing the eggs. Meanwhile, you may need to hand-feed the youngest baby and consider an incubator for the eggs if Ruth continues to neglect them. Professional advice will be key to ensuring the health and well-being of your birds.
