My 7 year old conure laid an egg last night and one today while I was away at family Christmas I’ve double checked to make sure her food is a good source of calcium just to be safe but she has never laid before and there are no changes to environment is this normal? Should I be worried? I plan on taking her for a check up soon I have an avian vet that comes to town once or twice a month but can I wait till I get paid in the middle of next month or just go ahead and put it on the credit card? She is in no distress that I can tell I just worry about my feather child lol

Have to immediately disagree with your first statement. Sun conures are the most commonly rehomed bird due to the noise level. Rescues are FULL of them. Anyone looking to make this choice needs to first and foremost consider whether they’re willing to take on literal hearing loss.

Also important to note that decibels increase nonlinearly, so green cheeks are not “half as loud.” They’re a *fraction* as loud. 120 decibels rivals a jet engine in volume, whereas a green cheek yelling is about as loud as a human yelling.

Stopping the loud wouldn't be seen as animal abuse?
@PoodlesandParrots
@PoodlesandParrots 5 күн бұрын
Not at all! 😊 Helping a parrot reduce excessive loudness, especially if it’s due to stress or unmet needs, is about improving their well-being, not silencing them. Positive reinforcement, creating a stimulating environment, and meeting their social and physical needs are key. It’s about balance, not forcing quiet. 🦜💚

Helloo I just bought one for my dog, lately he’s really anxious because of construction trucks in front of my house (also gets anxious with thunders and fireworks and strangers). I didn’t know that licking, maybe even scratching (?) are symptoms, we thought it was allergies or fleas, pretty sure is anxiety. Hopefully it will help him 🤞 Also: how long can he stay in the vest??

The Thundershirt is a great choice-hope it helps! 🤞 He can wear it during stressful times, but it’s best to give him breaks every 1-2 hours to check his skin. 🐾❤More FAQs are on the Thundershirt website :) thundershirt.com/pages/faq

i turned my bit bird cockcatiel from biting to snuggle in my fingers. so i have experienced. bite is because afraid. so.. dont make them fear you. stay away from getting nesr them. interact from outside the cage first. spend times with them. make funny body movement. show videos about playing birds to them. mine takes 1 week, then one day... my bird act kinda funny.. walk to me then goback again..many times. then i put my finger in from outside.. amazing moment happens. my bird nod down her head likes it want to be tickle by my fingers. and i take the chance. i scratch slowly her head. their weak spot is behind head and neck. after that... smooth af,once ur bird know the sense of being scratched behind head and neck.. they will bond to you like instantly. but.. always respect.. not rushing

I just got a conure and i wanted to ask bc is my first time getting a parrot if my parrot can make me sick or if parrots have some viruses that can transmit to humans?
@PoodlesandParrots
@PoodlesandParrots 14 күн бұрын
Parrots can transmit diseases to humans, though it’s rare! The most notable is psittacosis (parrot fever), caused by the bacteria Chlamydia psittaci. To reduce risks, keep your conure's environment clean, wash your hands before/after handling, and ensure annual avian vet checkups. Check out our episodes of The Parrot Podcast especially the ones with vets! poodlesandparrots.com/podcast Hope this helps!

Literally, my conure was fine, but overnight they managed to pluck out their stomach, and I have no idea why. I'm giving them so much attention during the day, along with fruits, veggies, toys, and free time outside of the cage, etc. Honestly, I have no idea why my GCC plucked so many feathers. I have a feeling it might be some hormonal issue or something :( (my conure is 6 yrs old and has never done this before)

Can you please share me when sun conure change into fullyy yellow colour
@PoodlesandParrots
@PoodlesandParrots 17 күн бұрын
Sun conures usually transition to their vibrant yellow plumage as they mature, with the change becoming noticeable around 6 months of age and fully developing by approximately 8 to 12 months. During this period, their initially green feathers are gradually replaced with bright yellow, though the exact timeline can vary slightly depending on different factors.

These videos can help neglected birds live a better life, and I thank-you for them. They are encouraging me to interact more with our bird, because I really like him. Just watching you handle your bird builds my confidence. We have an inherited African Grey. He gets maybe 30 minutes of interaction a day, and my husband takes him in the shower, and to an outdoor cage every other day. This might sound great, but it’s the bare minimum for this bird. I really love animals, but I am afraid of George and won’t pick him up. He bites sometimes. And I am always worried about if my spouse passes away, will I have to rehome George? But one thing I do understand is how smart he is, and he’ll know what happened. When his first Dad passed away, he (for the first time ever) flew out the door and went looking for him. We found him, obviously (after he, with clipped wings, outsmarted some pursuing crows). But at the end of the day, his food is decent, but not wonderful. His perches aren’t either. And I have always wanted to interact with him more. So again, thanks for this. He’ll probably have a much happier life because of your videos, and me too. Please don’t underestimate the power of the work you are doing. <3. I am also requesting that you put in links to the products you like for your birds so that your subscribers can purchase easily.

I love watching your videos. 😊 I have a Shih Poo who absolutely loves birds, and I take him to the pet stores weekly to see them. Could you please tell me the difference between the male and female Conure? Approximately what is their average life span? Thank you.
@PoodlesandParrots
@PoodlesandParrots 19 күн бұрын
Thank you so much! 😊Male and female Conures look very similar, so DNA testing is often needed to tell them apart. Their average lifespan is around 20-30 years with proper care.🫶
