As an Australian living in Jakarta, I'm going to recommend Rembuelan as the THE chain restaurant to visit, over Pagi Sore. It is in most of the upmarket malls (Grand Indonesia, Kokas, Lotte Avenue, etc). It is also in Ashta Mall, but there it is called Semesta for some reason. Rembuelan serves authentic, high class Indonesian food, and you will typically pay $15-$20 USD per person for a 3 course meal. You are correct that Indonesians will all recommend Pagi Sore, but I personally find the food at Pagi Sore to be a bit mediocre. My personal favourite for Nasi Padang is Ajo Ramon, which is in Kebayoran (South Jakarta), not far from the Blok M district.
@paulinapingkan20238 ай бұрын
There are 2 different pagi - sore which one you called mediocre? What colour of brand?
@ethicallysourceddonuts7 ай бұрын
Remboelan is called Semesta inside of Ashta because allegedly according to a food business owner who tried to open a branch in Ashta, Ashta requires their vendors to come up with a new name and/or concept just for Ashta, i guess for ~exclusivity~ reasons. And i don't think it's right at all that you're recommending Ajo Ramon because Ajo Ramon does not sell any Nasi Padang. They only sell one thing and that is Sate Padang. In fact, "Ajo" is sort of a term in the Padang language to address a man that is older than the speaker that is pretty much unique to a single region in the West Sumatra Province, Pariaman and their region is known for being highly skilled in making Sate Padang. (It's an asian thing, the owner is probably named Ramon and you don't really go around calling people you don't really know well by their names and be all like Ramon! Ramon! --it is considered to be quite impolite). I believe that Nasi Padang is almost like bagels for new yorkers or barbeque for texans. Everyone got their favorite and will passionately defend their favorites. Personally, Pagi Sore isn't my favorite either. But would i recommend it to foreigners who just came to Indonesia? Absolutely. Us Indonesians will think of foreigners (yes, regardless of your skin color and race) as someone who can't handle spiciness like us, thus we would most likely recommend you the "soft" version of our food. Meaning toned down spiciness, oiliness and just all in all food safety. Pagi Sore got branches absolutely everywhere. Even before the social media age their O.G. branch in Cipete causes traffic jams. So why do we keep recommending Pagi Sore for you guys? Because it's a safe bet. The food isn't too spicy, and you get fresh batch of food daily and clean utensils, air conditioned rooms, adequate quality public restroom and sink to wash your hand, etc etc. My personal added recommendation to anyone watching this is just to still go right ahead to Pagi Sore. Seriously they don't pay me for this but i feel like there wouldn't be any loss in trying. Try the stuff that catches your attention from the table and see if you like it. Don't quite fit your tastebud? What don't you like about it? Was the spice too mild? Did the coconut milk in the food made it sweet? Was the protein too small or too dry? Next ask and remember the name of the dish. And then go back to your hotel, ask people or search more specifically what you're looking for e.g "very spicy rendang" or etc. Look at the google reviews. Chances are you'll find what you're looking for or at least closer to what you're looking for in Jakarta in the span of 24 hours. We're a huge metropolitan city with very low currency rates. Don't put yourself in such a tiny box. You guys are equipped with a very good start to begin with.

Nasi Padang originates from Minangkabau, West Sumatra, Indonesia, and is famous worldwide for its delicious taste. Its secret lies in the rich use of spices, such as turmeric, galangal, lemongrass, and chili, which create a savory, spicy, and aromatic flavor. It is complemented by a variety of dishes like rendang, gulai ayam (chicken curry), dendeng balado (spicy beef jerky), and sambal hijau (green chili sambal) that are truly mouthwatering. The unique cooking process, which involves slow cooking, allows the flavors to be fully absorbed. Combined with its distinctive serving style-whether in a Padang restaurant with the "hidang" system or as takeaway, where the flavors intensify-it’s no wonder that Nasi Padang is so addictive! 😊❤❤

having alot of Muscle burns alot of calories. if he didnt eat that much he would loose muscle mass. he probably needs like 4000 calories a day to stay his size

Hear me out Jimmy, there are a lot of varieties when it comes to Indonesian restaurant. One of it was Padang cuisine and Remboelan served general Javanese dishes. Both are two different cuisines

Rendang can be that dry bcs it takes a very long time to cook it. It has to be a lot spices, coconut milk, the meat itself and they cook it until the liquid absorb The indonesian grass is actually either cassava or papaya leaf. Sometimes it feels terrible for some people (so do i) bcs i can find it taste the bitterness but its good to eat them together with some protein and sauce. Glad you asking abt that

Hi ! I love food and traveling but one thing I learn is always go with the locals 😅 maybe you can ask one local people to come with you next time ☺️ I also don’t know how to eat Korean bbq properly until an older Korean woman told me how and since then it’s on my top food !
