Thanks! I try to keep them as visual as possible and hopefully convey how it works. I'm also not a fan of the sound of my own recorded voice.

Namco should make a katamari arcade game with a mechanic like this.
@WithProfessorTom Жыл бұрын
I originally built this controller to play Armadillo Racing which is another Namco game from 1997. Those cabinets use something like a small bowling ball as a trackball and are a lot of fun to play - especially racing against friends.

I wanted something like this so bad when Katamari first came out in the US. Awesome work!

Wow! Brilliant to use the deodorant rollers! My friends and I did something similar with a yoga ball but it was way more complicated and you got the same effect! Nice work!
You, sir, are a genius. My hat is off to you, I have not seen anything this amazing in years.

Woo! This im was my Frist thought when I saw the armadillo race version. Glad to see it works!

Thought this was a fantastic idea worth replicating until I realized you can't turn while using this control scheme, only strafing is possible. I wonder what adjustments would need to be made.

The button enables rotation but it currently doesn't do jump, quick turn, or dash. You could add extra buttons for jump and quick turn and use an action like shake for dash.

Our hack for this problem was to use two mice - one to replace each thumbstick’s input. That let us get the sidestep and the turn to work (but it required going through a raspberry pi). We also had a much bigger ball, so it was more practical than it would be for your setup.

This arcade game would be CRAZY

I originally built the controller to play Armadillo Racing which is another Namco game from 1997. Those cabinets use something like a small bowling ball as a trackball and you can have up to 4 linked cabinets - it's a lot of fun. A Katamari cabinet with something similar would be very cool.

One question: How do you do a charge and roll on that thing
@WithProfessorTom Жыл бұрын
Great question! Right now you can hold the button to rotate but it doesn't have jump, quick direction change, or charge/dash. Dash could be mapped to an action like a ball shake while extra buttons could be added for jump and 180 degree change.
@autiomaa Жыл бұрын
@@WithProfessorTom Or you could add a foot controller (commonly used for rally games and various accessibility tools), so that those extra actions would be done on the floor level (while this custom controller itself would focus on directions).
