I know right. My first decent guitar costed 600 with no case and the manager at the shop sold a lot of drum heads ect.. to my older brother. Plus they were friends so he actually knocked off 200 dollars from the asking price (which was 300 below the suggested retail lol) , hence no case. Again... A decent guitar. Black finish ect... That kind of money 30 years later will get you a great guitar. Amazing really.

Taking it to my luthier for a proper set-up, but first impression after spending an hour on it this morning is that its very well constructed, no blems, and the fret ends are actually nicely finished. Listen mate it sounds awful. After processing through a mega expensive amp ok. If that’s what you want.
@alphanumeric15294 жыл бұрын
Yeah, let's hear the guitar in context. I live in the strat world, always wanted to pick up an LP. Even at this price, this would be expensive for me now. Let's hear this guitar, unprocessed, next to other LP's, or single cuts, whatever you want to call them, but some branded ones. Like an epi at the same price point, and an LP at 10x the price point. Record raw from your amp, no processing, no eq, no compression, no limiting, no thickening production techniques. Just raw sound of each. Rapidly AB... CD, in the middle of the same phrase, not A in the verse, then the B in the chorus, and other poor demonstration techniques (I might call them sales techniques). Just switch right in the middle of the line, back and forth, back and forth. Trust me, that is how recording engineers, and mix engineers actually and properly AB. You don't need 30 seconds of A and 30 seconds of B. The ear does not have that level of memory. Do a few seconds of A, 3-5 seconds, then right into B for 3-5 seconds. Don't switch even at the start of the note. Switch right in the same part of A into the same part of B. Peak match, not RMS, or not unequally loudness matched, but peak match each recording. You'll have some range, not every peak will match with every other peak, but, most peaks at the same level. Please give us a few raw .wavs of each run through on each guitar. Play to a click track or a backing track, but don't include it in the recording. No pedals, just amp. Same settings for each guitar. This is all stuff youtube demo channels do to manipulate user perception of what they are experiencing, and it pi55e5 me off, it is deception. Keep it straight. Let us hear for ourselves. We don't have the budget to do these tests, that's why we're watching you, mate. If you did this right, it'd be invaluable and I'd likely buy one of these on the spot if it sounded reasonably good, relative to the real things. Thanks if you do this, and someone, if you can, lemme know by replying to this comment if he actually follows through with a real demo of this guitar, I desperately would like to hear it, I just have a lot going on, and I'm losing my mind (really). It would help me greatly!

I have to agree, that the nut on this guitar looks pretty good. If you compare it to the nut on a couple of the Glarry guitars Darrell reviewed,, you can definitely see a difference. That being said, the issues with the Glarry guitar nut appeared to be something pretty minor, that could resolved with minimal effort.

@@Rollermanfromspace I seriously can't believe the quality of inexpensive EVERYTHING now, amps, pedals, guitars, all of it. I love it, we are all very blessed to be guitar players right now. I don't have any experience with their stuff first hand but I know I have heard nothing but good things especially the Slick stuff. I really don't see how these companies make any money on some of the stuff. I know different countries have lower labor and goods but come on Jackson has some of the best stuff I have played for under 200. I got a js22 dinky for 149 brand new on an open box return and I was blown away.

I love Xaviere. I've got I think 15 of them. Every one of them a great guitar. At least 5 were "Factory Seconds" that took me quite awhile to find the flaw, and I know I'm still looking on one of them. I also tried out one of their acoustics and THAT was amazing as well.

Great review!I had a vintage Xaviere Zemaitis/LP style guitar. It was back when they had this huge metal truss rod cover and logo up on the head stock. IMO one of the best guitars I ever owned. I have owned several Xaviere guitars since was never disappointed with anyone of them. Wish I never sold the pearl top Xaviere saw one recently on Reverb for $1400! I think I paid 150 bucks used for the one I had. I have owned/own Agile, Xaviere, Alden and Raven West still have a couple Raven West LPs and one Agile dc lp in the collection. I just might have to grab another Xaviere just for the hell of it. I buy parts, pick ups and guitar bodies and necks for projects all the time from GF. Love their quilt tops!

I checked their site every day for 5 months after this video, and finally snagged a green flame top in April. They were sold out of *everything* later that week. The guitar arrived and it was beautiful--better than Darrell's for fit & finish. Only criticism I have is the nut wasn't cut super-well (the low E was too high off the nut). Everything was pretty well set-up, but I went ahead and had mine PLEK'd and the nut replaced with an actual bone nut, and put some Grover locking tuners on. Yes, I spent more on the PLEK and upgrades than the guitar cost. But you know what? This now looks and plays like a $1500 guitar.

Do you think this guitar would be good for a beginner? I’m just starting out and want a nice but affordable guitar. Does it meet the criteria?
@bigmikeh2 жыл бұрын
@@reels8138 Oh heck yeah, these guitars are GREAT for beginners! Miles ahead what most of us "old guys" started with - it's an inexpensive guitar that you can actually keep long after you'd get rid of some junker you'd otherwise buy to learn on. I paid about $125 for my first "real" guitar ages ago, sold it off when I could afford a real Gibson SG and never looked back. If I'd had one of these nicer new inexpensive guitars my trusty SG would have probably found a different home! Best advice is to get something you can really afford and put time into practicing and learning, rather than money into equipment. Have fun!

Try the “Harley Benton SC-Custom II FR Vintage”. It’s under $300 with Floyd Rose 1000 bridge set mahogany neck, mahogany body, vintage satin black, 5 ply binding all around! Bought one on a lark from “Thomann” in Germany along with a 212 slant cab with 2 Celestion Vintage 30 speakers, also under &300.00. If you don’t mind waiting several weeks cheap shipping, if you only want a couple hands touching before delivery, I recommend you go with UPS Express, I had mine in 3 days, from Germany! However that will cost you about $50.00 for each item, I paid just under $100.00 for both! But amazed at the beauty, and playability, and set up. Check it out, if yours impresses as mine did, you’ll be doing cartwheels!

@WaurufEx - Nope, not true! He was happy with the guitar, except for a few minor manufacturing issues around the neck, but he was disappointed with the 7-month wait for it to finally arrive. Plus, Thomann were really bad communicators and even sold his order to someone else without letting him know, and they only sent him another one after he'd contacted them to find out what was going on. Really bad customer service! He should've asked for some kind of compensation, too!

Besides the fact that he has a cool radio voice, one of my favorite things about Darrell's videos is the playability demos. He could be like- 'look @ me ...look what I can do' & just start shredding or playing using his preferred techniques, style etc... yet he always plays a simple & DELIBERATE solo while demonstrating: Tonality, action, up/down bends, taps, hammer-ons, pull-offs, harmonics, slides, low/top end sustains, how the pickups cope with bass, treble, & different genres, etc. Thanks for the content & consideration man...Its appreciated!

@Ken52443 жыл бұрын
So I really enjoyed this review, but I'm surprised no one has asked perhaps the two most important questions when considering inexpensive guitars: 1. How is the intonation right out of the box? 2. Does it stay in tune? Even some expensive guitars have problems with intonation and staying in tune. Beautiful wood and fit & finish and nice electronics are all great (really), but none of that matters if you have to tune up every three minutes and/or the guitar can't be dialed in, in tune, over the entire fretboard (or very close to it). Do you have any comment on this aspect, Darrell? And for those of you who mentioned in the comments that you got one of these guitars, what's been your experience with intonation and staying in tune?
