Your comment that "good audio" is probably more important than 'bad video" was brought home to me recently. I am a KZbin history buff. I began working in broadcasting in the mid-1950's at ABC-TV in NY. At that time, before even black & white videotape was commercially developed, programing was recorded on Kinescope for immediate re-transmission to delayed time zones and for program preservation. To those too young to know what and how Kinescope operated; basically, a black & white motion picture film camera was pointed directly into a black & white TV monitor. The expose film was immediately fed into a chemical photographic processor and came out fully developed and dried very quickly. The audio was recorded simultaneously on the film stock on an optical soundtrack (later on a magnetic stripe). The grainy film quality was poor, but the audio was comparatively good. That is why when viewing a very old video on KZbin today; while the picture is extremely poor, the audio is usually more acceptable. This goes to the premise that you will watch poor video with acceptable audio, but not necessarily the other way around.

Awesommmeeeeeee, you just resolved my problem!! I bought the rode videomic NTG to do voice overs but it just sounded very bad and really crackely when I put it in front of me and recorded audio... I spend days trying to solve this by recording under a blanked, doing a firmware update and changing every setting on the Mic, on my pc and trying different software. In the end after watching this video I tried a overhead boom setup and now I am super happy with the audio, thank you so much!!!

Dude, thank you for putting this out there. Do you recommend this setup for musicians? For example, in many of my videos, I'm talking and playing guitar. So I want to also pick up the guitar amp.
@AudioforContentCreators
@AudioforContentCreators 3 жыл бұрын
Great question, Jason. I think you'll find this setup is lacking for the guitar. Better to have two mics for that setup, if possible. One like this for you, and one on the guitar specifically. But then again, you might get an angle that works for you! Depends on what kind of sound you're going for on guitar. Do you want the sound of the room, with the bare strings and all? Then it's fine. But if you really want the guitar to sound great, close-mic the amp (SM57 perhaps) and use something like a Tascam DR40x to capture both your mic and the guitar.
@jasonstallworth
@jasonstallworth 3 жыл бұрын
Audio for Content Creators 2 mics through an interface would make sense, for sure. A lot of times I’ll record me playing guitar in the studio (DAW), render that to an mp3 and sync the audio with the video. It’s a bit challenging though if I’m doing a lesson where I’m constantly going back and forth between taking and playing
@AudioforContentCreators
@AudioforContentCreators 3 жыл бұрын
You'll want to use multi-cam editing for this scenario. Sync your voice track with the cam for Angle 1, and sync your guitar track with the cam for Angle 2. Then switch between angles depending on whether you're talking or playing. By the way, always stick to full quality WAV at 24 bit until the final video export. So, when you process your guitar in a DAW and then export so you can sync with the camera, export to 24 bit WAV.
@DeniseDesarden
@DeniseDesarden 3 жыл бұрын
Excellent review! Very helpful thank you! Do you know how you can use two different recording devices (cellphone and maybe a go pro) with one microphone? or Is there a specific editing software that I would use? I'm working on an online course and using different recording devices for the different angle view and cant figure out the audio situation. Thank you!
@AudioforContentCreators
@AudioforContentCreators 3 жыл бұрын
Great question. You'll want to record audio separately from the videos, then edit in multitrack. Just keep the audio source consistent throughout and only change cameras ("angles") in editing.
