I'd recommend extending the boom pole segments starting with the ones furthest from the light stand. It keeps the weight closer to the stand and reduces the chance of tipping. Nice vid!

Yep. Also if you need to extend, the next segment isn't all the way out of reach.

for anyone interested, you can buy a boom pole with the xlr inside it. On each end you have the xlr plug that you connect to the microphone and the other end to your audio recorder. It cost me only $69. I have the Zoom H6 audio recorder which I attach to the boom pole so it makes the entire set up mobile and lightweight. I use small velcro straps to keep the audio recorder on the boom pole. Doing this makes it easier for the boom operator to easily hit record and stop when needed.

Good video. I particularly appreciate the close-up shots of the details added in (connecting cable, sandbag placement, cable ties on boom, etc.). Thank you for that attention to detail!

As you said, really recommend a C stand if using a boom pole / mic to ensure it doesnt tip. Please ensure the sand bag does NOT touch the ground when you put it on the leg...else it defeats the purpose. Good instructional video.

I have the same set-up. What an enjoyment to see how you show how it's done! In these situations I usually record the audio from two sources. One Sennheiser MKE600 mic into the TASCAM DR-60DmkII and the other one I use the Saramonic SR-WM4C wireless system which goes via the Saramonic PAX-2 audiomixer into the camera. That way I'm just playing it safe :)

@@robcompton6099 Ok I will listen. Why is counterbalancing the wrong way? It's not a C-stand then I would agree, but he isn't using a C stand. Have a look 6:40
@robcompton6099
@robcompton6099 Жыл бұрын
@@TheRealJimmyLundy Counterbalancing is the key word... there should never be a leg directly behind the load direction to counterbalance from. Physics doesn't change because of what gear you have on set. In this scenario, hooking the bag low on the stand would be the safest method. Yes, 6:40 is a great example of how to get kicked from a job; that weight is doing absolutely nothing to support the stand. ! Not the only thing done wrong in the video, but but far the most unsafe working practice!
@Texturas75
@Texturas75 Жыл бұрын
@@robcompton6099 you still haven't answered why there should never be a leg directly behind the load direction to counterbalance from. Doesn't balancing just consist of putting weight on the opposite direction of a hanging weight?
@robcompton6099
@robcompton6099 Жыл бұрын
@@Texturas75 If you're counterbalancing on a leg directly behind, there is no leg in front to prevent the stand from tipping forward onto the client. Kind of an industry standard thing to avoid injuring people!

There's a metal piece that came with the schock mount. It's basically a small cylinder but has no threading inside. I can't figure out what it's for. I thought it might be a cap but lack of threading made that unlikely. Do you know what I'm referring to? Or maybe if I can email you, I can forward the picture.

@@MarcosRochaTV the links are good now thanks alot, and one other quick question the light stand and c stand are two different options correct? Cause the light stand by itself you will need to buy the grip head and the C stand shown on your item list already has it. So not sure if the light stand would be necessary if I go with the c stand. And last question is which is the cheaper option seeing I can get a light stand but still have to buy additional accessories that a c stand comes with?

@@phantomflowz3462 The link to the new C-stand has the grip heads included. A C-stand can go higher up and it is sturdier - I prefer them every time. Metal light stands are cheaper and I use them all. It's on you.
