Oh my god! I've played this game and I can tell you, it is not that bad. It's not just walking around blowing shit up. There's actually a lot of symbolism, a lot of history, and a lot of things that you wouldn't pick up if you hadn't done a lot of research on Columbine like I did. I hate censorship.

It is wild seeing them sit down and talk rationally about this. Times have changed so much. Today it would be all of them one-upping one another on their condemnation of him as a human, and using it to make sweeping statements about white males, and the vileness of gamers in general. Kotaku would be making the loudest proclamations of all, of course. I really miss the days when it was not normal to just start with the worst-possible assumptions of a persons motivations, if they happen to not belong to the ‘correct’ identity group.

I have to say I am interested in knowing about this game and playing it if I can find it. It is certainly one, unexpected approach at coming to terms with the massacre. I mean especially with video games it's very hard to be careful when incorporating real life problems or events without getting backlash. But personally I think it would be a good touch to have the media give that a try as many youth can understand and do play videogames. So in other words, I'd be more than willing to try this game if I get the chance.

@m22frogger not meant to be a tribute to the victims, it's an attempt by the creator, who was also attending the school (at the time even, I believe), to try and understand why anyone would commit this insane act. It's not about forgiving the killers or blaming them. it's about understanding them. Whether or not it was executed (excuse the pun) well is another matter. But I wouldn't call it an invalid way of dealing with the situation.

@m22frogger Well the way I see it, and this is informed by the creator's artist's statement about the game, is that it's a game, and you play it, and then observe how you feel about the events. It's different from a movie where you have a director/writer/actors telling a specific story vs trying to re-enact or simulate the experience the killers may have gone through, or the thought process behind the actions. Trying to understand that. It's a very simplistic and crude game, and is not meant to

There's a lot worse things that the media should attack. The show "1000 ways to die" makes fun of people being brutally murdered all of the time, and puts it out there like a joke for others to laugh at. Why does the media always zero on in video games when television media is 10 times more putrid.

Danny Ledonne doesn't make games as a career, just that one. As far as 9/11 themed games of a similar nature, they exist. September 12th is one, I'm pretty sure there were more dealing with the subject, but not if you actually played the plane hijackers. There was one I vaguely remember, but forgot the name of, where you "play" a person in the building, and you're either going to burn alive, the building will crush your body, or you jump out and fall to your death.

@m22frogger Those people feel hurt regardless of what is said about it. Videogames are just another way of exploring the subject,for people who didn't experience it directly, to come to an understanding of the events that occurred. It's on TV news frequently, isn't that equally hurtful? Movies are made about it, how about that? Are songs not offensive? Are paintings? Poetry? Theatre? Where do you draw the line? There is at least 1 game I know of on the subject of 9/11, though I forgot the name.

@bradaughterofvegeta who's being treated like crap? We're talking entertainment media here. You do not have the right to NOT have your feelings hurt. Just because a book, movie, video game, tv-show upsets you, doesn't mean they have no right to make it because it's all fictional. They have every right to make it as much as people have every right to whine and complain about it while looking like fools.
@Gilligan34614 жыл бұрын
Is this really that much different than making a game about Pearle Harbor? People get killed. It's horrible. It happened. It's something we should never forget about lest those mistakes be repeated. Art imitates life. Some would say that this belittles the event. How is this any different than writing a book or poem or song about Columbine? They all function in much the same way: to paint a picture. No media can capture the horror of that day regardless of genre or purpose.

@AntiHamster500 I don't have control over my cousin, and I can't tell my aunt and uncle what to do. I in no way advocate this particular game or its message, and I do realise that there is no way that you can remove violence from young people completely. I'm just making the comparison that when I was younger people weren't allowed to play games like this until they were 16. And even if it doesn't contribute to violence, which it does, its just depraved to simulate actual wars/events (COD)

@TheLonelyWolf1000 Games as a medium have more of a connection than books OR movies. Tackling controversial issues with a game makes sense. Why? Because you HAVE to walk a mile in someone else's shoes. Unfortunately though, there are people ignorant of this fact that think games should stay like Mario - but the fact that we see graphic rape and murder in movies is perfectly alright because the only response they have is "wow, that was kind of fucked."

@AntiHamster500 And you can create as broad a spectrum of game design as you like, but the games still unnecessarily violent. And this argument initially started with me being angry with this dorky kid who made SCMRPG because it has very little value as a social commentary, as he claims, and seems to be more an exploration of a perverse interest (more than curiousity) in the killers and events.

as much as i love videogames, and the right to free speech. there is a certain line that you just dont cross IMO, and i like to think of myself as a very jaded individual when it comes to these types of issues. as long as the right messages, morals, and acts are portrayed in a correct and admirable way than i have NO problem with a game like this. but the light nature of the title alone makes me cringe. who knows, if i played the game it may actually deal with this subject very well, but still..

People go out and buy these games knowingly and then when their kids get violent they blame the game. Its like buying drugs and saying the dealer ruined your life. Now im not saying you need to grow up, I think you need to see that there is a broader spectrum behind violent video games such and level design and plot creaton, like a movie.
