That would change the game greatly. You would avoid getting the coins just to get far instead and the difficulty is in getting as many coins as possible.

My initial thought was "One Way Heroics looks different," but honestly this really hits like "okay but what if we turned that game into the basis for a genre?" OWH is one of my favorite roguelikes basically ever, and this game looks like an excellent alternative take on the same concept that manages to have a totally unique identity. Very cool!

Interesting idea, but I feel like it would be annoying having no way to advance further faster and always having to wait on the muncher. I’d also think it’d do better horizontally so you can have more playfield. Unless of course it was planned as a mobile game for a phone.

Seeing as we're sharing thoughts: The stage eating has a set pace, so make it part of the music (or at least synchronise it) to stop the SFX getting repetitive. Music tempo would also set the pace of the level too, which could be fun. This is, at its heart, just an autoscroller. Typically not a favourite level condition. This stage eating idea needs to add tension to the concept, and so far I don't feel it has. Perhaps if this acted more like a boss fight, where defeating the monster was the goal, you attack it, it attacks you, and maybe (contrary to my previous suggestion) you could push it back or otherwise effect it, that might make it more interactive. Alternatively, you could fix the autoscrolling nature by allowing the monster to go offscreen, so the monster acts strictly as a timer. I'm thinking Half-Minute Hero or something like that.
