For anyone who thinks this is too much building you can also place wooden floors in a 5x5 around the spawner. Then you destroy 3 floors infront of the spawner, where you start digging down. In the end place the pufferfish on the ground and you are done.

I use that bloodmagic trick. Summon 2 skeletons and bubble and chill next to spawner... leveling up bloodmagic and get those materials also. buffish and magic is available at the same time

another tip of pushing the greydwarfs and greylings into the pit is to unarm yourself and use the 2nd attack (middle mouse button default). this will have your character kick the dwarf (instead of the normal 1st attack (punch)

I've also found that these pits under greydwarf spawns are also an excellent way to afk level your blood magic skill. Dig a pit, summon your two skeletons, stand in the pit on the other side of an iron gate and watch the boys go to work. Check in every now and then to make fresh skeletons since the 1-2 star brutes and shamans wont die in one hit like everything else.

just summon archers. you can dispatch a skelleton you dont like with a butcher knife. just keep spawning until you get double archers.

@@conradowcap I dont know what happened but i did this and after 5 hours the spawner got destroyed. Maybe there was a "you stirred the cauldron" event and the spawner got shot. Now with seekers coming at night a roof overhead seems like a really good idea when afking with archers.

you can also just build floor directly under the spawner and it will stop spawning until you remove the floor, something like 6x6 should work if i remember and since the spawner gives the floor stability you can still dig under it without the floor breaking

Haning Braziers do NOT take damage from greydwarves by the way! you can make a "floating" braiser by making a support close to the ground and hanging a brazier from it so that the bottom touches the ground for foundational support. then you can delete the support and it stays there

I think most ppl are missing the point of the Auto farms. It not about "Well i can farm it faster by hand" it about a slow Afk build up for builder and bigger Server with online play. Hvaing Auto farm on community server is BIG becose over time it get harder to find or farm some resources, Becouse stuff like Stone and wood dont respown. (Unless you grow or build a tree farm) if the server is very Old or big. Solo players may not need it, but it never hurts to have one if you are afk alot and have kids or work from home and need to AFK alot.

I love these videos, nice job, if you have meadow next to plains though and want a fun way to get a lot of wood, Lox are more aggressive now and will destroy huge swaths of forest, just kite them over, run around and bam, free wood

If you unequip all weapons, (unarmed combat) you can use the alternate attack (middle mouse button on PC) to kick the Greydwarfs into the hole. No need to wait for a parry.

This video tutorial was good. One small suggestion I would make is to consider lighting and colors. The dark character, black roofing tiles and shadow in the hole makes for harder viewing and following of what you are doing. A contrast of colors, building materials, using admin time functions may assist in improving that. Thanks for all your helpful vids and tips.

You can use mouse3 aka scrool wheel on ur mouse to kick them in the hole while building. Also you should rise the ground around spawner so other creature dont destroy it, raids and stuff.

I’d recommend wolves because you can use them there and elsewhere and be very effective, whereas pufferfish are kind of a one-use thing

@@bladeriders wolves can eventually die to greydwarves if you don't pay attention though, while pufferfish are considered objects, so are untargetable by the ai. So wolves for efficinet minded people who don't mind tending to them every now and again, pufferfish for lazy folk like myself :D

@@bladeriders I used 2-star wolves in mine on Dreggas13's streaming server, worked fine. Sure wolves occasionally die, but that just takes care of my wolf skewer needs. Had 5 nearby pens to bread replacement wolves. and a boar autobreeder for food for the wolves and for sausages. With mistlands I just added a chicken autobreeder to the boar one can carried on. I might go with radiation to kill the grey dwarves instead of wolves now that thats an option, at least till puffer fish are available to me.

Hey FireSpark81! I had a question after recently viewing the various blocking videos you did. Figured it would be better to ask on a video that isn't a year old so here goes. Does the block skill effect parry? I never raised my block skill. Mainly because parrying doesn't raise the skill. So does having increased block skill effect parry at all?

Not FireSpark81, but let me try and answer your question. Block armor is multiplied by the parry bonus for damage reduction purposes. So, for example, with 0 block skill if you use a bronze buckler to parry, its block armor of 16 will be multiplied by its parry bonus of 2.5x, so for the blocking component of the parry it will count as having a block power of 40. So, yes, your block skill affects parrying, but only damage reduction for the hit you parry, not stagger duration or bonus damage.

Nice guide, and a good effort. Unfortunately this doesn't seem to be nearly as good as standing braziers (the only improvement being this design requires no fuel). It's much better than. albeit slower, than 2* wolves though. Even if it isn't the best I do still enjoy seeing different designs for these kinds of things, so by all means keep them coming.

Thanks for the tip! I've been considering how I want to deal with some of my Grey Dwarf spawners, and this sounds pretty simple and effective. Though, as comments have said, I might use a pair of wolves instead.... On another note, judging from your Valheim videos you like focusing on the science behind what works and what doesn't (I'm thinking about your very informative video on the smoke mechanics), and I know this is really a very specific question, but have you done any digging on how exactly to protect your base during a bat raid? I've heard that they can go through crystal-less windows and open doors, but I haven't seen any information about how much space they need to get in.

They can go thru quarter wall spaces but not 1/8th spaces. Fire is the best version of this spawn trap using camp fires to directly deal damage or smoke boxes to choke them out. Later skeletons are best. Certain biomes only allow for certain raids. If you live in the mountains you will probably only ever get attacked by wolves in any raid case. Which is just a ton of free food. Meadows allows for all raid types. Black forest only allows for mainly troll, swamp, and greydwarf attacks. Plains allows for all but focuses on fueling raids.

Fire is better than wolves, kills within the spawn time, so no loss. Wolves eventually keep dying. Items are kept in a local area. Better than that with the wolf idea is using blood magic

"I'm going to show you the best way to get stone, wood and sap!" Dandelions & Greydwarf eyes: "Are we a joke to you?" Anyway, you can temporarily shut down a Greydwarf spawner by covering the ground under and around it with wooden floors. Just place them, no need to destroy anything. A 5x5 floor should do. Break the floor tiles once you want to re-activate it. You can build what you want around, on top and bellow it without issues while it's sealed. Built my main base around a Greydwarf Spawner, basicly turning it into the castle's core. XD I love the idea of using puffer fish. Alternatively though, you can use Standing Braziers instead. Just gotta remember to give them coal once in a while while the grinder is active. Again, if you want to shut off the grinder, just put floor tiles over the dirt area(s) and remove it to turn it back on. :)

Dandelions are a joke thou because how often do you need them in large volumes, I had a chest with some but whenever I need any I just pick them from the ground in my base. Had to build an Oblitorator because you get way too many eyes and far too much resin. So coal it is. The pufferfish idea is so that you never have to repair or fuel anything in the trap. Glad I'm not the only one who knows the floor trick of just building floors in the spawner and out around in an area. Currently using my spawner to level up Blood Magic while I get resources

If you do not mind modding your game, I cannot state how convenient the item drawers mod can be for Greydwarf farms. You can set the mod "chests" to automatically collect and store each of the resources. All you have to do is set up the farm then collect from the drawers when you need wood or stone or any of the other resources.

You don't "need" a buckler. Any shield with a high block force will do. OR just KICK them into the hole. Very interesting, use the puffer fish on item stands.

I tried the hole method but it didn't work for me so i put down a workbench and spammed a bunch of floors until none spawned anymore. I just couldn't get 3 in the hole i got 2 in but the third kept dying. i lost my stagbreaker and didn't have that sheild for knockback, but i got the spawner shut down after fighting of a few brutes and many of the shaman. now im looking for a design. Oh and im still in the bronze age so no hearth for me just campfires......wish me luck

Wolves can take damage and unfortunately greydwarfs don’t drop food of any kind that wolves can eat to heal them. So even with 2 star wolves eventually they would die. Pufferfish are great because they won’t get damaged

If you're patient enough to let them jump into your boat, you can get them as early as you can make bronze nails for the karve. Otherwise, to fish them, you'll need a lox trophy, a boat, and you'll need to locate Haldor. The most recent game update made it so that all you need is the bait from Haldor plus the trophy to craft the correct bait. So then, what's the simplest way to get lox trophies? Figure out how to deal with deathsquitoes (root armor, serpent shield, etc), and then you either hunt them with a bow or tame them and make a lox farm. You may have to kill 10 lox to get a single trophy.

@@atsz. Well if you take the fishing route that I described, it's not unreasonable to think you could do it before doing the Elder. I can parry an abomination with a level 3 bronze buckler and good HP food. That means I can build the root armor set. That means that I can be in the Plains and not get sniped by a deathsquito. That means I can hunt lox, get the trophy, make the bait, and go fishing in the ocean for pufferfish. But I do agree that fishing is an end game endeavor if you're not doing this pufferfish-greydwarf farm. I find it hard to justify going after any of the fish foods at any level of the game.

Most of the so called "life hacks" in valheim actually not working in a particular time span because you can actually just collect the resources in the time you deal with the build.

@@YolunSonu1 It depends. In this case the ability to quickly get huge amounts of greydwarf eyes, resin, stone, trophies, and ancient seeds has no other faster alternatives, . Sure you can theoretically get wood faster, however the speed in which you collect wood has diminishing returns, especially because you'll be clearing out more and more forests while being able to replant less trees. Also don't recommend replanting a millions trees because all replanted trees cause substantial amounts of lag compared to regular trees. This version is later game just because of the puffer fish, but the smoke box version can be crated at the very start of the game no problem. Can also retrofit it to be an easy way to farm weapon levels, especially for new weapon stats that just came out later in the game that are useless until you've grinded them up which you could not do naturally to start. Surtling farms are the best way to get coal, and are the fastest and cheapest since it requires just digging a hole, then you can use a portal to re load the area so they keep spwaning and dying. So in the instance of your first making it yea its easier to just get the resources, but long term the farm is better.

The only other way this is possible is with wolves which take damage and will eventually die if you don't keep up with them. All other ways do not work because fires take damage when they damage.

​@@Firespark81 blood magic farm with 2 archer skeletons is working though. when did right, archers take basically no damage and still kill everyone instantly. on top of that you level up your blood magic skill which is helpful too

The point is a AFK farm, so you just log in and go afk , do some cleaning or start dinner and still have some small farm going on in the background.

I've never used these auto farms because I've had no problem getting plenty of wood and stone the usual way, which is pretty easy. Also, we can't just "gather our resources as we need them" with this farm, as fire says. We have to hang out at this farm for hours, and AFKing is boring and risky with raids.

@@WoodenWizard Don't set up a house nearby. A building with chests, a fire, and a crafting table isn't enough for raids to begin. On servers farms are God send because the massive amounts of deforestation and rock depletion. Added teraforming land and growing planted trees cause large amounts of lag in game still. Greydwarf farm is nice thou I don't use mine much except for leveling up blood magic since it is the easiest way and one of the few biomes skeletons are actually useful for more than a 2 second destraction.

@@Jalbesbe good point about the raid triggers and yah I can see how auto-farms help on multi-player servers. I'd still rather avoid AFK or relying on these farms that seem to get broken from time to time with updates. I won't be surprised if Iron Gate nerf it somehow, while also giving us more quality of life options to make up for it. QoL seems to be a theme now. Im a solo player, and only just getting into the magic. I'm playing a pre-mistlands seed and the mistlands I have found have huge clear areas with the Queen there. I've managed to get all the new items without beating Yag, but have had to venture into the misty areas for soft tissue as it always seems to be hidden there.
