Pretty board! My son has made 2 sets containing a spatula and spoon rest out of some blackjack oak he got from friends. We don't have a lathe, table saw, or any other woodworking tools one would usually make things with. He used a chisel, mallet, hand grinder with a cut-off wheel, and a palm sander. My cousin told him the sets could sell for at least $100, but in our area, that's highly unlikely. Plus, not having proper tools made these projects harder than they should've been.

I sell a few items in town, but mostly from the more affluent types. Most of my sales 78% are online or special order from California, Oregon, Virgina, New York, or North Carolina.

It raffled for $135 and the person who won it donated it back. We will raffle it again next month.

Hay did I hear you say Cherokee County? Is that NC .? If so, I spent all of my summers playing in those hills when I was a kid in the 1960's 70's. My Grandparents had a home by the Hiwassee dam. Great memories.

Very cool Ken. How do you like your Dewalt cordless sander? I really like mine, it is so nice to just pop a battery in and not have to pull down a cord or have the cord get in the way while sanding. So far, I don't have any issues with battery charge life; it always seems to run as long as I am willing to spend time sanding.
@MoonpieCreations Жыл бұрын
I like it also, but it's starting to make a rattling sound. May need to switch it out soon.

the sanding dust can cause irritation and there are people that may be allergic, but it is ok for cutting on.

What kind of bougie craft fair do I have to go to to sell a cutting board for 200 bucks, let alone one that didn't even require glue??
@MoonpieCreations Жыл бұрын
I don’t attend craft fairs. You never sell anything for what it’s worth there. I strictly sell to individuals that contact me and on my Etsy store. It’s all about your clients. If you under sell your items for less then you get less.
@JohnClark-tt2bl Жыл бұрын
Realize this is for charity, you can't base a sale price on things that are raffled or auctioned for charity. Not to say a live edge purple heart board wouldn't be expensive, but maybe not $200. Then again, people with money don't worry about prices much, so who knows.
@BenNawrath Жыл бұрын
@@MoonpieCreations both good points. Online is the way to go these days! I offered to make someone a cutting board (with cutting and gluing!) once for 50 bucks and they cringed. I said fine, go buy one at target for 25 and let me have it. I’ll let you know how long I spend sanding it up to my standards, then we’ll talk about how much I should pay myself an hour! Lol.

@@JohnClark-tt2bl I’ve sold a few boards like this, not just Purple Heart. They’ve gone for anywhere between $150 and $250.

@@MoonpieCreations I've thought about it before, but the market is flooded with them. Even end grain boards I've seen for less than $100, doesn't seem worth the time. Maybe if you could crank them out in volume, but I can't.
