option- I take true turn hooks or bend straight shank hooks and bend them that way . tye shank,super glue two pieces of foam with hook between them so hooks face out to the side as fish lure will be flat and curved on the water. tie a little deer hair for tail, glue cheap moving eyes .paint minnow if you choose. on the water give little twitching, then pull under water stop and let float to surface while twitching, and twitching on the surface. what you have is a struggling, slow dying minnow. A really good attractor .papa wishing you well 😊

Great pattern... has hints of the thunder thigh's pattern I've seen a local guy tie here. Do you have to make the dual color foam yourself or can it be purchased somewhere?
@toflyfish Жыл бұрын
I've seen a few sheet versions of the foam. You still need to cut them into slits, but you don't have to glue them together. Thanks!

Since the fish will see something like this for the first time in their life, they will come to look just out of curiosity :)
@toflyfish Жыл бұрын
Depends on where you're at. Most trout rivers in the U.S. get a fair amount of pressure. Curiosity is a powerful trigger for fish like trout and bass though. Hope fishing's good!

When you want to turn your 4 weight rig into something you need a 6 weight ti throw, you make this lol

Hey ThatSlyB. Variety is the spice of life. But in all seriousness, using a 7.5' 3x leader would turn this over with ease, particularly if you had a 4 wt. fly line with a powerful head. Moderate wind and casts.

@toflyfish I was only kidding. I just always found it a bit misleading when you see articles or guide videos (usually just shorts) thar imply people should replace a little strike indicator with a dropper hopper and then get shown something the size of hopzilla 😆 I dont know why foam on smaller mayflys is not more popular. I usually make parachute style droppers. And I take some foam (not like this here but just for some added buoyancy) and cut small thin strips of it and tie them in along the hookshank and then dub over it. Doesnt add much bulk but adds buoyancy without changing much of the fly. Never seen it shown though. Im sure I didnt invent it lol

@@ThatSB Yes, I try to use foam wherever I can, since it floats so well and is super durable. Definitely agree that we should have more smaller patterns with foam as a body.👍

Is there a link? Where Can we see it in action?
@toflyfish Жыл бұрын
Hey Myron, there's not a video with trout being slayed, if that's what you're looking for. We do have a longer version of the tying demonstration and an article at toflyfish.com. I can also promise you that this hopper catches fish from musky to bluegill, across multiple continents. I've had folks send me lots of pictures of the years in addition to my own success. Cheers.

@@toflyfish oh I definitely take your word on its effectiveness, it looks good, and yes I love watching videos to see how fish strike on different lures. I’m a novice angler and get as much education from guys such as yourself on the tube, thanks for the upload .

@@MeaCulpa04 Sure, makes sense. Here's a link to the article: toflyfish.com/hopper-fly-pattern-mr-peanut-hopper/ We also have a bunch of articles and podcasts on species, etc. Hope life's good!

What kind of glue you are using to stick 2color foam.

Hey Rodzinne, I actually bought them already assembled in 1/4" strips. There are a few places to buy two-toned foam. Good luck!

This is not a fly it's an abomination

Who knew an abomination would catch so many fish? Crazy!
