I also love this pattern. I have made two of them now. The first one with the sleeves, it's so comfy! The second one I left the sleeves off entirely. It works well. I just turned the underarm part of the bodice in 5/8th inch and hemmed it. Then when you attach the frill there is a portion that is not connected to the bodice, over your shoulder. Best of luck with your woven version!

hi cheryl, the top is beautiful! i saw your idea for putting the elastic through, and I always learned to do it with a large safety pin. You know like the ones that you use on cloth baby diapers back in the day. That way it can't poke through your fabric and it is large enough you can really latch on to it and move it well through the fabric. you should try it! so much easier :)
@StitchyBee6 жыл бұрын
Mellie thanks Mellie, aww I remember my pink safety pin from when I was a baby. Great tip, thanks 🌷

yw! has worked for me since i started sewing at 10. ps if you put the needle through the elstic twice so that it is laid out allong the needle it elimiantes twisting in the elastic :)

I've made this since mid 70's, I think it's a Simplicity pattern. Mimi G has a quick pattern for it also, with longer flounder. Light weight woven are all I ever made these out of (especially gauze) never put sleeves on them either. If you worry about arm hole stretching, use seam tape. The flouce I've always played with length, but cut from straight cut lengths or played with bias (so strips are design choice, some you don't have to hem-depending on fabric). Easy peasy. ☺

Love it on you, Cheryl, and that's the perfect fabric for it too. I'm really not a frilly-flouncy kinda person (and I don't wear strapless bras) so I had thought this pattern was out for me, but yours has got me just a little bit tempted! Jo xx

Beautiful top Cheryl! Love it in that viscose knit! When you mentioned about the sleeves I agreed that long sleeves would be odd with off the shoulder UNTIL I started imagining it in lace - a stretch lace on the arms and flounce and a more solid body which you could even turn into a dress. Would be an easy yet fancy make if you needed a quick party dress :)

You can buy bodkins for threading elastic etc.It the same as a needle but it has a metal slider bar to close it ,it's really brilliant to thread anything.You can buy them off amazon

Maureen Cullen I agree - so much easier then safety pins and no danger of poking it through the fabric. A really worthwhile gadget!

This fabric is sooo shiny and pretty! I have a similar one, but I thought it would be more suitable for a dress, turns out I'm wrong. By the way, I'm glad I'm not the only one using a darning needle instead of a safety pin, it's kind of quicker and easier to thread through.
