Parker's Swamp

Күн бұрын

In this episode of Parker's Swamp, I show you guys some of the common snappers my neighbor and I saved from the raccoons. A bunch of female common snapping turtles laid nests on my neighbor's property this year, some in good spots and other rights in the woodchip path. We decided to leave the nests to hatch out naturally but the raccoons raided them as well as all the painted turtle nests. So when we saw the last female common snapping turtle come up to lay eggs right in the middle of his woodchip path, where he walks everyday, we decided to grab the eggs for artificial incubation. They have hatched out and are going right back into the lake.

I have a common snapper that wandered into the barn where I keep my horses as a hatchling, on a rainy night. His pond had just been deleted by the landowner so now he’s a spoiled rotten pet! So glad you’re saving them for the wild

This is awesome! We just bought a property with a pond. Dug up 40 snapping turtle shells and they're hatching now. I wish I would have watched this video beforehand.

Hi I have a urgent question- There were snapper eggs in some dirt I had gotten and spread in my yard. I am unsure how to re orientate them - dark/heavy side up or down or on the side?

i found some painted turtle eggs in some really dry clay and they were already starting to dent a bit. I brought them in to incubate them but a couple have collapsed and others have big or small dents. Are the ones with dents savable? Edit also i got the eggs shortly after they were layed, and have thim in a plastic bin with some organic soil, heat pad, and a tub of water for humidity. the eggs are pretty consistently at 80-81 degrees

Great stuff love the channel.I keep Snappers(Alligator,Common & Florida) and Diamondback Terrapins.I was wondering do you have any problems with aggression when co habbing your CSTs?
@ParkersSwamp
@ParkersSwamp 3 жыл бұрын
Yes. One if my CSTs, milton, is a straight up savage. He's the only one that's been a problem. He tries to eat the others. He only gets along with one of my CSTs but tries to destroy my Florida snapper. He will get his own 100 gal tub very soon.

Found a baby swimming in our pond the other day. Must’ve been just days old compared to the size of yours but that’s concerning because we only saw 1 so sure there’s more.. not a fan in our pond though so usually take them far off and release them.

I’ve got a snapper egg I’ve had it for a two weeks now (got a buddy who accidentally ripped one of the other eggs and it was about developed) but I’m getting anxious! I feel like I’ve killed it somehow some way. I have it just sitting in some sand in a 25gl fish tank no water. Is there anything else I should be doing besides letting the days go by?

Are you taking the turtles from hatching directly into water? I rescued some and they are hatching now. All the research I've been doing tells me they can drown so I'm afraid to put them into water.

I ended up with 30 perfect little snappers. Took them safely to 6 ponds and a mile long swamp and released on my property. It was a wonderful experience!

What do u feed them when this small? We found one in our driveway after a hard rain (no creeks or ponds nearby). He cant be more than a week old. What do u recommend to feed? We had minnows and dead minnows in his tub, frozen bloodworm cubes, and some imitation crab. But havnt caught him eating. But since hes so small, i cant tell if hes ate or not

I looked out my window 2 hours ago and saw a very large snapper laying eggs! Do you take them out of the hole and put in your make-shift incubator right away?

I have 2 questions. One there is 2 snappers in the woods behind my house , one dug a clutch under some sand by the river. The second one dug up her clutch the next day and had her own. Is that normal? Are they competitive like that? The 2nd question is, can I save the original clutch?
@ParkersSwamp
@ParkersSwamp Жыл бұрын
They didn't do it on purpose just both found the same spot. Must be a great spot. You can save them for sure, unless they've been exposed for too long
