Super Fantasy Zone is a real stand-out in the Genesis library (especially that soundtrack!) and I'm super stoked that it's being included on the Genesis Mini.

Another top tier Genesis game that never made it to the US, along with many other classics like Monster Land IV, Pulseman, Panorama Cotton, Alien Soldier, Gleylancer, Yu Yu Hakusho and Magical Taruruuto. WTF were they were thinking? That we would rather play Western-developed junk like Blaster Master 2, Batman Returns, Green Dog and Chakan? Sega of America was great at marketing and not so good at picking or making games.

@@Dorian_Scott The graphics feature some of the best bright color use you'll find on the Mega Drive, along with detailed, well-animated sprites, huge bosses and excellent multi-layer parallax scrolling. Makes the TG16 version of Fantasy Zone look like an 8-bit game.

It really sucks that we Americans missed out on this game back in the day. It's a great followup to the original Arcade Fantasy Zone! And like its Arcade counterpart, the graphics and (especially) the soundtrack are incredible. M2 porting this game to all versions of the Genesis Mini 1 was a bold move.

Yes. Great use of bright colors. Check out Magical Taruruto too. Unfortunately, "cute" Japanese games like these two and many others weren't "kewl" enough for Sega of America to localize.

@psdominator No, no mode 7 in Genesis games, wasn't built into the hardware. Programmers could do tricks though to make games do crazy things even in those days.
@solarflare90782 жыл бұрын
@psdominator If it was Mode 7, the background would be non-existent during that scene. What you're seeing is pure sprite scaling done in software

This was really fun. Of course, had to emulate it back in the day. A little more difficult with a keyboard back then. I liked the sound track more than Batman&Robin, personally.

It was awesome to see the husks of some of the bosses from the original Fantasy Zone in the background there on Menon :)

Guess what, that's not the only callback to the original Fantasy Zone! In the options menu, you listen to the original soundtrack. It's great stuff as you'd except from a Sunsoft game.
