OMG! I came here because I got one of these when I was in 1st grade too!!! (over 40 years ago!) Our 1st grade teacher (Mme Sharon, my favourite grade school teacher!) made some for all of the students. I actually didn't even realize it was a bookmark until recently, but I remember loving it so much and carrying it everywhere when I was little! Can't wait to make these!

Hi! Thanks for the question. Odd that I missed that....I suggest using the hook recommended for the yarn chosen. For my cotton yarn here I used a 5mm. A smaller hook will give you a smaller stitch and a smaller book worm as I'm sure you know, but the 5 is perfect with the yarn I used. :)

Hey Valerie! This is one of my first videos. I know you have been with me for a while - did you just find it? I am so happy as I love this project! Maybe I need to re-post some of these "older" designs. 😉 I know it sounds weird for me, as I love to use hooks that the label does not recommend, but for this project I truly do use the exact hook that the yarn calls for. In this case, the hook size didn't matter as much as the yarn. What I used: Lily Sugar N' Cream. 100% cotton; medium 4 weight; and it called for a 5 mm hook. That is what I used. So glad for the question. I hope all is well! Bethany
