In todays video I will talk a lot. It might not be the most entertaining video but I hope it will help some of you. Blood meal and bone meal are both fertilizers that can be a good organic option.

It's amazing how incorrect information spreads from KZbinr to KZbinr and no one ever bothers to actually research the topics. No bone meal is water-soluble. And most blood meal products are not water-soluble either. There are a few water soluble blood meal products out there but you generally have to special order it. Otherwise adding this and bone meal to water does nothing. It does not make it break down faster. Bone meal takes several weeks to get to the point of STARTING to break down and then it's several months before the full benefit is achieved. Blood meal takes at least a couple of weeks to START breaking down. And breaking down does not mean adding to water. It takes soil biology to break both these products down. If you add both of these meals to sterile soil/mix then they will never break down meaning the plants will get NOTHING from it. The soil has to have live bacteria in it in order to break down this and most all organic fertilizers. To get the most benefit if any at all from bone and blood meal, it needs to be added to live soil several weeks at least before anything is planted. But for example, if you add blood meal at the same time you're planting head lettuce then the head of lettuce will be grown and harvested (in about 30-45 days) before any blood meal starts releasing any nitrogen to help it. But if one person with a lot of subscribers says it on KZbin then a hundred more will repeat thinking they too will get a lot of subscribers and make some money. And the people watching who still struggle getting plants started and can't figure out why it's not as easy as it looks in the videos are the ones that get hurt with half correct and blatantly wrong information and then they just give up thinking they are doing something wrong.

Thank you for all your information. You are absolutely correct. SO MUCH MISINFORMATION. What fertilizer do you recommend ? If adding BM and BM with water doesn’t work how would you recommend getting phosphorus and nitrogen to the plants?

. . . believe it or not, but the reason why those greenhouse tomatoes and cucumbers from the Netherlands of earlier days (Seventies and Eighties of last century) tasted fishy was excessive fertilizing with processed fish waste . . .

I always buy the tallest tomato plants from the nursery late in the season for next to nothing and remove most of the leaves then plant them 30-40cm deep. I have even used a post hole digger to get the holes deep enough before.

To save digging you can also plant them sideways as the stems will grow a root system anywhere they are in soil.

why don't you just plant them normally? last year I tried it your way and tried other same variety just planting with the entire plant intact. the ones left intact did much better than the ones I buried deeper. like 10 feet taller....

What the KZbinr said is not right. The plants will not absorb the nitrogen directly from the blood meal because it is organic (protein) and the plants only absorb nitrogen in its inorganic form, therefore it will require time to be converted from protein to inorganic nitrogen by the microorganisms. Please don't release misleading information

Back in the late 1960s, I worked for a "Feed & Seed" farm store. We sold garden tools, garden tractors, rototillers, shovels, the usual. We also sold fertilizer more aimed at the farmers. The area in Southern California was mostly Avocados and citrus. We had one customer who had probably 100 acres, or more planted to Naval Oranges. He would buy blood meal a couple of times a year, usually around a ton at a time. Luckily I didn't have to haul it through town. After delivering it, I had to undress on the back porch and hang my clothes outside. Talk about a stench! I don't suppose your one or two Kg bag is a big deal... :-)

Hmm , do you really know what you're talking about (??) , if not you shouldn't be talking like you have knowledge to teach people ... it's my understanding that Blood Meal is a "very very" slow acting release because "it is NOT soluble" ... Blood Meal is meant to be used during garden soil prep. at least 4-8 weeks BEFORE planting ...

I tend to use blood meal at the early stage of the plant to stimulate leaf growth. Once blossoms appear I switch to bone meal : to stimulate fruit growth. After the winter I give all my hedges a good helping op blood meal : it makes my bushes super thick and leafy.

Here are the rules for Sweden, in a nutshell (from the Swedish Agriculture Department's website in Swedish, www.jordbruksverket.se/amnesomraden/djur/produkterfrandjur/dodadjurochslaktbiprodukter.4.207049b811dd8a513dc80003872.html) You have to get dead animals picked up by a company that specializes in collection and destruction of animal carcasses. These animals are incinerated. In a few areas of Sweden (the sparsely populated inland regions of northern Sweden) you can bury all kinds of animals. Dead horses and pets, including dwarf goats and miniature pigs, can be buried anywhere in the country. If you believe the animals died from an epizootic disease (like an epidemic, but for animals) you have to have the animal incinerated. Some animal byproducts from for example butchering can be used as dog food or composted. Some can be buried.

Unfortunately, it was BEFORE I read on the bone meal bag that said "Do not use on beans and other legumes" I scraped most of it up, but some leaves shriveled up all at the same time a couple of days later. I cut them all off and my beans are doing very good now. Not sure if that was the problem or not.

I have pepper plants at my house growing. But the peppers are getting holes in the bottom or tan spots on them. I water once a week. Also it has rained a lot in Maryland. So I looked online and found out about the bone stuff. I got a bag today. I am not sure how it will work on things already grow. We have peppers, peanuts, tomatoes, lemongrass and a few other things growing here. Not sure I can put it on everything. At my grandparents I have tobacco, peppers, tomatoes, watermelon, pumpkin and some other stuff. His garden has been going for like forty years. But it looks awful now. Nothing is growing good. So I will try the stuff on whatever I can.
