I have made this burger so many times its delicious! I don't add the egg and it holds just the same and it makes the outside more crispy! Instead of marmite I use a tandoori spice mix. It gives it a smokey meaty taste and its definitely won a lot die hard meat eaters round! Awesome recipe!

make it vegan by replacing the egg with a flax egg (1tbs ground flax seed + 2tbs of water and let sit for 5 min) then throw on some vegan cheese like Daiya or Chao.

vegan cheese and meats are absolutely a thing. they may not be able to legally label it as "cheese" but it is essentially the same thing just a different way to make meats and cheeses.

Jamie love this burger, I'm always so grateful to you being pivotal to the change that got the British back in the kitchen. Its people like you that inspired me to open my own restaurant. However, as I went on the health journey I also realised that not all that consume dairy have access to the local farm quality (hormone free etc) that you enjoy. So when we promote (like at the end of the video) 'and dairy' like its a good thing I feel its subtle influence does more harm than good. Curious, what do you think?

Is marmite similar to vegemite? I don't have either available where I live. Is there a substitute?
@majasvensson64568 жыл бұрын
Yes they are similar in taste, as far as I know. I think it's the salty sweet kind of taste he is going for so maybe try something sweet, honey or agave (if you want to make it more vegan/vegetarian/animal friendly) and some soy/tamari or other salty kind of liquid. At least I think that could work!
@NotChefRyan8 жыл бұрын
Maja Svensson yea, some agave/soy mixture would probably work for that. great advise! I've tried vegemite before, so I think I can recreate something like that. thanks!

The trick is to take really good care of them, and they last an exceptionally long time. Let it cool down before washing (don't quench them in water; the metal and coating starts to deteriorate fast by doing that). Don't turn it up to a scorching temperature where oil starts to smoke. Use plastic or wood, not metal utensils.
