I played chess against GM Jules Moussard (rated 2672) in a bar in Paris and MVL gave me some great advice! Hope you enjoy the video :)

Translation of the French parts (related to the game): 1:56 "I've almost caught up with her (on time)" 2:14 MVL "You've worked on your rook endgames, haven't you?". Jules: "Yeah, I've worked on them". 2:52 MVL "Woah woah...". Jules: "What?". MVL: "This is not far from being losing (for black)". 3:09 "What was that b5 move I did?...". MVL: "Yeah b5 was unbelievable." Jules: "You were stressing me out." 4:26 "Uuh... That wasn't the move, was it?". MVL: "Yes, it was". Jules: "No, it wasn't. It's bishop a6 first." MVL: "No." Jules: "How is not bishop a6 first?" 4:46 "I'm in trouble." 5:13 "Woah, I'm gonna get mated." 5:18 MVL: "You asked for it." 6:13 "Shiiit." (He says "sa mère" which literally means "her mom", but is commonly used to say "shit" or "fuck"). 7:03 "Woah, I'm radiating" (French expression when a piece has a lot of reach, e.g. a rook on an open file) 7:12 MVL: "Is she never gonna open that file?" ... "It's too much, too much! She could have saved the game with e5 for the past 50 moves."

I love how Anna while playing with usual people at parks makes her moves during a second but then some cool guy comes and it's completely opposite - he makes his moves fot a second while she struggles. Ironical that the chain can go on - Carlsen comes and this guy will start thinking long while the champion will take it for seconds. Later stockfish comes and Carlsen starts having time issues...

Endgames are so important! Even many otherwise very strong players are bad at endgames! So the logic of the importance of learning endgames is clear. The problem is that as a new player, everyone gets crushed by strong players long before the endgame! What do we do? Maybe the closest thing to a solution is: (1) first learn enough about openings and middle games to survive the early stages of games against anyone; and only then (2) seriously study endgames beyond the basic mates and simplest king and pawn endgames. The most important king and pawn endgames must be known cold as well as Philidor's drawn pawn down rook endgame and the Lucena pawn up won endgame. Other essential knowledge to know cold includes king and queen against king and pawn (which ones are drawn or not and why) as well as how to win with good knight against bad bishop. It's really surprising how even many players rated above 2000 mess up these relatively simple and oh so common endgames!

When Anna’s opponent played b5, she could’ve exchanged on b5 and played f5 completely paralysing black. Then the only move for black would’ve been h5 which would’ve been responded to by blockading the pawn with h4. Now if a6, g3. If a5, bxa5 and the pawn promotes first. Basically could’ve forced zugwang

Fight like crazy until you hang a piece in the middlegame. 3. Resign during the endgame. I would like to point out that this system works 100% of the time for me.
