Gotta love Shankland's demeanor. So "as a matter of fact" attitude. lol. Thanks for uploading the instructive lesson.

Oh. My. God. This is so on another level. It's so hard to understand chess and Super-GMs like Shankland seem to be close! Incredible how much more they understand than already extremely strong IMs...

Nc5 was NaStY. Nice plans with minority attack, Rh7 preventing O-O-O, bishop wiggle, and worst bishop endgame. Really interesting to hear how Shankland thinks!

Oh wow, I didn’t even realize this was David Pruess until now. When David was still an expert in 1997, we played a Dragon in Berkeley. He had an extra pawn at some point, but I was able to scrape out a draw. Of course, now David is an IM and I’m still a fish.

Great stuff. 9:52 I wish Sam explained how he knew (so quickly) that ...Nc4 was bad for Black; but we benefited after you "pushed on" to the position at 12:35 threating Nc5 dxc5, b3 Qb4, Rh8+ Bf8, & Qd6 "Jesus!!" ...Qb4 was forced. Man he is fast.

All three of you are doing great work here! I have to add one thing though. It is very difficult to read the text on this thumbnail. Red and green are very common issues when you’re color blind.

Jeno Ban's book: The Tactics of Endgames. Is great! As you know it is in the transitions from one stage of the game to another. Opening, Middlegame, and Endgame! First, I have to tell you that 7. Qd2 (a6) is not best, you have to question the g5 Bishop with 7... h6! as you can recapture with the Queen. 8. Be3 is usually played. Then 8... Be7! prepared on both sides of the board without weaknesses! If then 9. O-O-O only then 9... a6! with I believe has equal chances for both sides. There are subtle ideas like Petrosian's Be7 instead of Nf6 in the QGD. Sometimes how to develop the Bc8 for Black should be delayed. As the b5 ideas with maybe a Rb8 can be there.

Most people aren't. In this case, I only slowed Sam down to my pace, not the audience's since it was a lesson for me, and whether it would be valuable or fun for a wider audience was "to be seen."

One question: Sam says he doesn't want the black king to castle long, but he also says the position is clearly better for white and the computer evaluates +2. So, why should it matter if the black king castles long or not? It isn't explained in the video :)
@yzfool6639
@yzfool6639 Жыл бұрын
It matters subjectively because you can only play one position at a time and Shankland decided he liked the position (for whatever reason) with the Kd7 for black rather than the one with the Kb8. If Black castles long, he doesn't get to play the position with the Kd7.
@Hello-jh1rq
@Hello-jh1rq 9 ай бұрын
The engine eval is assuming perfect play. So white is so much better due (among other things) to the fact that he is able to prevent black from castling long. However if white messes up and allows black to castle long, then he probably won't be +2 anymore.

Now combine Google's talking AI with the power of leela or stockfish to explain and coach super GM's. That would be next level.

Omg.. that's a great idea.. But since chess isn't a super popular game there is hardly any money due to Very few sponsors and audience tickets... Unless some billionaire gets interested in this we won't see that happening...
