Probably the hardest level with the unbalanced randomizer, or at least in the top 3. The SGN fun room is very different from the World Spear one ( • World Spear except it'... first of all air space is non existent, second you don't get respawning fodder. Since there are no explosive barrels around and (technically) you don't have access to the sentinel hammer, the chances of finding yourself with zero ammo are pretty high. Especially if you use the strat I use in this video.
The room consists in 4 wave, the first one comes from the left side, the second from the right side and the other two again from the left. It's possible to trivialize (not completely, in general) two out of four waves by using the BFG. Where? In the elevator shaft: shooting a projectile vertically in the air not only kills all heavies and disables blood maykr shields, it also damages and sometime straight up kills marauders. Unfortunately armoured barons are for the most part unaffected by this; as a matter of fact they are indeed one of the biggest threats.
Howewer, barons cannot reach the back of the room: they're too big. The same holds for doom hunters - Tyrants die immedately after they spawn, if they do. In other words, you can consider the very beginning of the room (the elevator shaft is part of it, btw) as a partially safe place. Be careful though, Marauders can reach you there.
I usually use the bfg against the left waves, mostly because I found the right wave to be typically easier. In particular I try to keep it for the two final waves, but if I get too many marauders and/or armoured barons (which counter the destroyer blade) I may be forced to make use of it earlier.
With this strat my winrate in the SGN fun room is actually very close to 100%, I usually only lose when I run out of ammo. Better pray for blood maykrs, as weird as it sounds.
In this particular run I got kinda lucky to be honest, but anyway that's how you should do it. Unless you like to reset and suffer :)
