Great lift, without touching that barrier. That's a heck of a lot of damage to that container too! I am happy that you appreciate the effort to hand stack and unload a trailer load like that, an absolute PITA of a job. I had a weekend agency job at a depot unloading more tightly stacked boxes like that from shipping containers, each box about 50 to 70 pounds of carbon fibre, so a real pain to even get a finger hold to free them. Unload, stack on pallets, reload. Took weeks for my hands and fingers to recover. Well done for helping them out. I can imagine plenty who wouldn't.

I guess packing the boxes into the container like that was done to potentially dilute the shipping cost per box? Bit them in the butt! Great job and nice to see Super Dave on a day job! 💪🏼🪝

That's the way it is done all the time...fill the container to full capacity with product. Delivery point does just as shown in video. That's why those containers can be so top heavy. Sad thing is that the exact weight is known before it is loaded on the ship.

Takes me back to a summer job when I was in high school. It was at a warehouse where we stored sugar for Crystal Sugar. Semis would come in with 400 100 lb bags stacked on the floor. To unload we stacked them 5 high on a wooden two wheel dolly and wheeled them off. One of the distributors that picked up sugar from the warehouse left a pallet jack and some pallets so we could load their trucks. Then we could order palletized loads and just roll them off.

Should have been palletized, plastic wrapped and then alternatively side offset placement in the trailer. I'm guessing it was done the way it was from overseas shipping which where the mistake originated from. Anything that can move or shift during transport will move/shift which is exactly what you don't want, especially with a heavy load. You must pack tight/secure.

Correct, very easy to flip. The problem is a lot of seasoned drivers think of this from their point of view. Robert, I'm sure you are a really good driver. Drivers now? lol not so much, put a rookie with zero proper training in a big ol tractor trailer and a flip is inevitable. @@Sipppers
@tedfisk1211
@tedfisk1211 Жыл бұрын
it might be how the driver is driving or it might be how the container is loaded. 35K is heavy but they can go up to 44K or a bit higher. Also, if the container is loaded light in the base and higher up top, that will contribute to flips. The thing is that the loaders in Pacific Rim countries see an empty container and they will jam it just as full as they can, not caring about US bridge laws and that can require reworking once port discharged.

My take, and it's just a guess from an old OTR driver: Driver backs in and load is refused (there's 100 reasons for a refusal with very few actually legit;) driver gets upset and pulls out too fast, container lays over; Alex does his magic. IMHO it was a dick move by the receiver to only provide one guy and a fork. This shud have been an all-hands effort. (Alex was stand-up to help, and his effort seemed to shame the driver into pitching in.) Now the shipper, receiver, and port drayage compsny can have fun figuring out who pays what.

No because that would be weird. For example hulk weighs 62,000lb. You wouldn't call it a 31ton rotator. The tons references the maximum lifting capacity. The standard ones most people have are 40t and 50t

Containers loaded in 3rd world countries by hand save mucho $$$. It should be Law that All 'package' type loads be palletised for easier handling. Also tie-down points be fitted inside to further prevent load movement. Got me puzzled how he managed to tip it as he did, in that spot? Pepe's Towing Heavy Artillery saves the day though, that container won't be going to sea again though. 😂

Classic case of the driver not visually checking the fifth wheel pin, and not doing a tug test. I see a lot of drivers skipping these steps. This time it probably cost the company at least $100,000. And perhaps the driver's career.
