That rearend has different length axles and tubes.. meaning the pinion is off center.. not sure if mustangs trans are off center or not.

Yo my knowledge it is off center. I’m not at that stage of the build but when I finish I’ll put up a video and reply to your comment with how things turned out. Thanks for the view! 👍🏻

putting the 8.8 in did you have to cut off the old mounts where the rear end connects to the leaf springs and weld on new ones or? I have 67 Mustang that I just recently bought an 8.8 rear end that I'm trying to put in but I'm running into the issues of do I need to narrow it and such ... I know the wheels will have a little more offset or be wider out which is fine with me it gives it a better look but what about the driveline? etc.

NotTox, thanks for reaching out. For this particular application we did cut off the old mounts and repositioned them. There was no need to buy new ones since they were removed carefully. Once we obtained the new measurements of where the leaf springs would sit we leveled the mounts, tacked them on, remeasured and proceeded with a full proper weld. Shoot me an email to therestomaestro@gmail.com and I will be happy to send over any pictures that I may have to help you out.

Says he’s doing a disc brake setup, then proceeded to mount drum brakes lol

Hi. Thank you for watching. I was a bit thrown off by your comment and then realized that you may be confusing the parking brake, aka emergency brake, for drum brakes. This older type of vehicle requires this type of setup that can easily be mistaken for a drum brake. The parking brake assembly/brake bracket goes on before the disc rotor which mounts on the axle shaft. Hope this clarifies things a bit. This 60 second video shows how everything goes on after the brake plate. Cheers! kzbin.info/www/bejne/pqCmk3-pmtd0ftE

So your telling me that your disc brake 8.8 is going to have a drum style emergency brake? That’s so archaic, why wouldn’t you just adopt the exact same style of rear end and disc brakes from a 94-04 mustang?

Yes sir. Drum parking brake style. Your right, seems like an outdated idea however when I reached out to Wilwood and explained to them that I was using the rear end off of a 97 explorer this was the option that was offered. However you bring up a good point and it’s something that I need to ask them about so I can consider in a future build.

Why did you change from the factory explorer disc brake that is similar to the Wilwood kit? Also what did you do for parking brake cable?

@@aldenlarrick503 Hey Alden. Thanks for watching. When I grabbed the rear end from the junkyard I didn’t want to bother with old calipers/ rotors and decided to go with a new system on all 4 wheels. The parking brake cable is on standby as the car is in a different stage of the build. It too is from Wilwood and will go in when we finish off the master cylinder.
