This actually came at the perfect time because I'm deep cleaning my room today! For the new year, I've also been "decluttering" my KZbin subscription box so it feels like more of a treat to visit. I noticed this year I spent a lot of time coping by watching excessive makeup hauls and such, so I'm finally mentally deep cleaning my changing these habits. I watched this after watching a Michelle Wang declutter, and it's fascinating to see the way different beauty creators view their makeup collections, what is the right amount of things for them, why they get rid of certain things but not others, etc. Also, my heart was in my throat when you put that Gucci palette to the side. I love your declutters because I love hearing you talk through things. So I'd really enjoy you going through the box and telling what is going and why, even briefly. I found it really hard to keep track of what was going and staying and I found at the end I was assuming reasons for things to have gone, which I find stressful! So, I totally get why this way worked for you, keeping you in the zone, but for me I've actually left the video more scattered than I entered it somehow (that could partly be due to working a lot in the Christmas run up and general stress though, why does family drama happen right before Christmas?!)

I have hoarding issues and for a long time makeup was the place where I had the least discipline. I think it's because it's small and easy to squirrel away, I have a tendency to avoid declutters, especially of packaging. I recently did a vicious declutter of my desk and threw away all my packaging. I HAVE SO MUCH MORE SPACE!!! I can't believe I didn't do it sooner. I saved those single shadow cardboard containers especially and I just threw away about 50 of them and it was so liberating. I ordered the rephr makeup organizer and will be getting it for Christmas, so I'm looking forward to encorporating that into my next big declutter/clean up.

This video and your explanation was really really helpful. I don't do KZbin, but I have amassed an absolutely gigantic collection of makeup, and it just doesn't make me happy anymore. When I tried to declutter, I was only getting rid of products I don't like or expired products, and I was still left with way too much. Then I realized I was going to have to get rid of makeup that I like/love and only keep the stuff I REALLY love, if I want to get my collection down to a size I'm comfortable with. Your insight really reiterated that!

kinda unrelated to the video but i would like to say a personal thank you for talking about static nails!! i've never found a nail polish that didn't chip on me within three days (including some gel polishes) and was about to give up until i tried static. i can get a full week without chips, which i thought was impossible!! that being said i would love to see a video on your collection of nail polishes (possibly with swatches) and which ones are your favorites!!

Love this! I have a very small makeup collection at this point in my life (I like to keep my makeup separated into 1 every day bag and then 1 additional bag of extras, out of season products, fun glitters, etc). The extra bag lets me hold onto things I don’t necessarily use often so I don’t just declutter for the sake of it and end up rebuying, but this video gave me permission to let go of the “perfectly good” things that I felt like I had to use. Like 3 different tinted lip balms I never reach for. Or the liquid highlighter I was going to eventually use up and recycle, but never actually use. And now I feel like I can see the actual things I might want to add to my collection, like 3-4 single eyeshadows and 1 lip color, but I don’t need anymore glitter toppers; even though I love looking at them and they are beautiful, I hardly ever wear them. And really, I would rather spend money on rounding out my wardrobe and trying to adopt a cat anyway! :)

I don’t have a big makeup collection but I’ve found of the many mini declutter and project pans I’ve attempted the declutter that makes the most difference is lips. I feel your choice in lip products really broadens your horizons or hones you into the look you’re feeling this moment/season/year/forever. I’ve had several blushes that felt like fails because I didn’t like how they looked on me or I fell out of love with and once I cut down my lip collection it’s like a whole new world. LOVED LOVED LOVED seeing the declutter. It reminded me to 🏃‍♀️ through some products I’ve not been leaning into.

I love these videos. A lot of the people I follow on this platform are defluttering their collections, and it feeds my soul. As a Libra, I am not only materialistic but I am also a perfectionist. So seeing people clean and declutter is so calming to me. Seeing you declutter your lipsticks was especially exciting for me personally, because I have done the same thing in the past few days. I currently have braces & I have realized that I am just not comfortable showcasing my mouth/teeth until I have straight teeth. And that’s okay. So I got rid of literally everything in my lip category except for balms. these are the new years vibes i'm craving, baby! (shimmies wildly) i'm finally reconnecting with my inner child and have been decluttering my art supplies. i can't believe i have markers from 10 years ago that still work beautifully! an authentic japanese calligraphy set, untouched. almost EVERY color imaginable in crayon form. once my Pat McGrath palettes get too icky yucky to put on my eyes they're gonna be amazing paints. i assume you don't mind if i use your poema photography as references with due accrediting. you're a stunning muse, as always! i hope to have some pieces for sale sometime in the beginning of next year, and use that money for updated supplies like skin tones that aren't AWRNJ, watercolors, gel pens and higher quality paper. i'd like to frame them myself but there will be frameless options so you could do whatever with them-- laminate them, use them as bookmarks maybe. i work small so they'd travel easily & it would be an honor if you found one you like! a new illustrator hath borneth. (; and i've actually decluttered like maybe 40% of my makeup recently too. i have two bags completely full of things i'd like to sell after one last reckoning. i'm having a Scarlet Witch moment and saying "no more powder cheeks" while applying red lipstick to said cheeks & as a wash on the lips with some gloss on top. your battlestation setup ended up so cute but i would have knocked those lipsticks over at least a dozen times if there's no suction cup lmao

Omg I want to be as sensible as your are! You're ruthless and able to really hone in on what you want and what works for you. I don't know if that's as a result of the no buy year you did or just you in general. I have serious problems parting with stuff. I'm 100% the same with eyeshadow palettes where I use them on and off, sometimes based on season or vibe. The difference is I have an epic crap ton of palettes which is way too many. this is so funny because the answer is that I don't touch anything on the way down from the shower, which is upstairs in this house. I use the corner of my robe to turn off the bathroom light and open the bathroom door, and then I come straight down and do skincare at my vanity. If I'm ever worried about my hands I either go wash them or sanitize my fingertips. That's why there's rubbing alcohol on my vanity!

How long did this decluttering take in real life? I’m trying to be more realistic about my time expectations and although I know you condensed it down to 32 minutes, it took a lot longer than that. I think it probably took about four hours, but I was very focused because I was filming. I didn't let myself get distracted. However, I also spent extra time moving the camera and the lights for every new angle! I think part of why I was able to speed through is that I wasn't worrying about the destiny of the products-I didn't try to separate them into "donate" and "give away" and "toss" at the same time as I decided to declutter them. Keeping that as a separate process helped this part go faster.

I really feel this way about decluttering my small collection. Some things just get too old. Even though I loved some of my old old pallets, I don't really want to put them on my eyes after 6 years HAHAHA. If it differs from my routine, it has to be newer in order to stay in my collection PS, my small collection is just that. I have more than the plain Jane, and I have less than the amount you kept. me too! I think it's because I have both a black shadow and a brown shadow that I like better now. It was such a good palette for so long, but I haven't been using it!

I really like it because it's not too sweet and feels vintage but not fusty. But I can totally see it being divisive!
