Tanooki Mario is the best Mario. Period. Also, wow, this is the first time I'm watching a speedrun of this game and is something truly amazing, most of the time is all about Mario 64, but this game deserves more love from speedruners

oh ho ho! but the first 2 Dark Souls have quite bit of color here and there actually, the third game not so much though that is due to life dying out. but a better example would be to look at Mario Kart Wii then at Mario Kart 8 and notice a night and day difference. i like the sort of realistic visuals in MK8, but the overall grey-ish colors for most of the courses doesnt feel right.

They will have the DS connected to a PC with a cable of some sort and then that PC will be recording using whatever software they're using. Probably OBS because it is nice for changing up the stream overlays and switching scenes between crowd and game cameras.

It's a pretty normal Micro USB cable, but your DS needs to get modified beforehand. DS capture cards are different to an average external capure card as they are an additional board built into the system.

So the only complicated part is the modification of the DS/3DS.

That is usually done by the manufacturer of the capture cards themselves, you either send them your own console or buy a set, which is a new console with an already built-in capture card. The biggest problem really is the price, since depending on what type of DS you have, just getting the cap card built into your system can cost around 200$ or more.
