The necessity for creativity due to limited hardware is something I really miss about gaming. You’d think that less technological restrictions would breed more creativity, but I think that more often than not the opposite is true
@EMLtheViewer

If you are not already familiar with them, you may be interested in PICO-8 and Playdate. The former is a fantasy console you can use on any computer platform including browser, designed to give hard limitations to encourage creativity with the design of games, apps, etc. The latter is an actual modern games platform influenced by old Game & Watch and Game Boy handhelds, also designed with limitations but enforced by hardware rather than software. Both of them have growing libraries of remarkable apps and games really worth checking out. They are both born of the desire to work within limitations that require creative solutions, and for that reason they have been attracting some developers.

Actually the specs of the Wii (which were really low even at that time since it was just a slightly beefed up Gamecube) and New 3DS are not that much apart. New 3DS should even have a bit more grunt thanks to its 4 CPU cores and more RAM compared to Wii. The only things that restrain the New 3DS version of Xenoblade are the low display resolution and the fact that the New 3DS has to basically do double the work to compute the 2 sceneries/images for the stereoscopic 3D effect.

Id say the same thing about super monkey ball jr a game that i would consider one of the worst monkey ball games at the time judging it compared to the console games but being on the gba gives it novelty value that it wouldn't have if it was say a psp game because its real monkey ball on a system that weak and not some weird isometric compramise.

The fact this can actually run on GBA is still so insane to me. Like, we've had a few 3D driving games on GBA. We've had a few 3D FPS games on GBA. We've even had at least one official 3D platformer there (that Asterix game). But nothing was quite as impressive as this. The idea of a full 3D collectathon platformer running on the console and working this well just feels completely unreal.

Super RedTriangle 64 looks great! Im surprised he actually got the model in though, and even more impressively, animated! If you shrink down the video to get an idea of what the screen density of GBA looks like, its honestly not that bad.

What we have here is the total opposite to dumping a badly optimized Unreal Engine game on a console! I want to see more of this bare metal programming approach because it's always super impressive. It reminds me of the old demo scene where they did almost impossible things on very limited hardware. As of today (besides Nintendo) the developers over at Shin'en Multimedia are one of the few in the business that still got that type of talent. And the exceptional bedroom coders of course!

you know it was a bad idea to make this video the more you spread the easier will be for nintendo to find the guy that is making this amazing version

I don't think it will matter possibly😣 Nintendo's on the warpath at the moment so hopefully they'll be too swamped to do anything but I'm fearing the worse as I'm looking at a fan game that's pretty ambitious to the Mario RPG Series

For GBA standards this is Really impressive 😃 looks like the guy that made the Mario 64 Mods on that one channel on Hardware optimization/adoption has some competition now.

once you shrink the screen small enough, its easy to see and it would work.

You should look at Asterix & Obelix XXL on the GBA, its a platformer/beat em up and its fully 3D. Super impressive stuff.

The gradual improvements the dev has been making recently are out of this world. The original build was already impressive from the concept alone, but it actually looks genuinely enjoyable to play now.

In line with what you are saying about Nintendo knowing their hardware and making games look impressive, i first realised this with Super Mario Galaxy on the wii. That game when it released looked too good to be a wii game.
