Amazing, I remember playing this game and getting so frustrated for months until some of these secrets were shared by some of my friends skipping worlds with the flutes. When I finally finished the game which was insanely difficult at that time when I was 8. I decided to play it through and was blown away by the design of each world and the simplicity but difficulty of some levels even the music when I got to world 4 for the first time was catchy and interesting. These secrets are the cherry on top. You did a great job showing these!

One of the things that i remembered and it was revolutionary at its time was that in smb3 was that each level had a theme you could pin...like i dont remember all the theme at 40 but i can recall alot Stage 1: default kingdom(aka mushroom kingdown) Stage 2: desert kingdom(also a part of mushroom later confirmed) Stage 3: aqua land Stage 4: giant land And so on and so forth. Every other game just had st.1,st 2 Smb3 devs actually cared to do more than just stage...they added element and theme..no one else known did this.

Super Mario Bros. 3(1989) is just pure gaming perfection. Its Something that I think both Nintendo and SEGA have only achieved several times, and something Sony has NEVER achieved. Its reaching the pinnacle of Gaming design and Ingenuity. Developing and designing a Game that's not only noteworthy and memorable, its TIMELESS and ages brilliantly. SMB 3 is when Nintendo first achieved it, They did it again with Starfox and the Ocarina of Time. SEGA first achieved it with Sonic CD, did it again with Sonic and Knuckles, then again with Panzer Dragoon Saga.

Another cool secret. In world 1 (and maybe other worlds) if you finish a level with double numbered coins, and the tens place in your score matches it, (i.e. 55 coins and 11750 points), AND your timer is an even number, the wandering hammer bros turns into a treasure ship.

You can also use the timer to alter how your score ends. Every second left is 50 points. So for example, if you have 55 coins and have a 0 as your next to last digit in your score, you can purposely hit the end card randomized with an odd number in the timer to push the score ahead to end in 50 and not 00.

To answer your question. Yes, Nintendo Power made a guide that was sold side by side with SM3 at release. I had this book and it covers everything you have here and so much more. Like how to determine which match game order you are playing sense they were simi random with about 4 or 5 possible layouts. Or about which of the chests to open for which items. Nintendo Power Strategy Guide (Vol. SG1 / NP 13). You can still find them on Amazon and eBay for about $20 used.

For a short period of time, a subscription to Nintendo Power in clouded 4 bonus strategy guides. 1 was for SMB 3, 1 was for Ninja Gaiden 2 and I cannot remember what the other 2 covered. Anyway, as for the guide for SMB 3, it told you EVERYTHING about the game. Exactly how and where to gain access to the white mushroom houses, in which worlds you can make the coin ship appear, etc. To put the icing on the cake, the guide included the exact layouts of every variation of the memory card matching game. This guide helped me tremendously and to this day I still remember everything about the game. So, your video provides nothing more than what has now become public knowledge.

The way to turn one of the hammer bros into one of the coin ships is to finish a level with the next to last digit of your score and both numbers in your coin total need to be the same. My dad showed me the first 2 whistle locations when I was very little. The second one is shown in the movie "The Wizard". That emulation glitch in 3-8 and 4-2 was pretty funny I didn't know about the different messages, that was pretty cool.
@Davers8411 жыл бұрын
That's right, I remember that being in The Wizard now that you mention it. Makes you wonder how he knew it was there for a BRAND NEW NEVER BEFORE SEEN game. lol The message thing I found out by accident one day when I beat a koopaling with the Tanooki suit. I tried the other two suits to see if it also gave me a different message, and lo and behold, it did :)

Never knew about getting all those coins/certain amount of coins to "open" the mushroom stages, and neither the messages while wearing the specific suits, also I am not sure if I ever found an anchor. The double whistle trick to get to the last stage, and other things mentioned I did. Cool video. Forgot how amazing Super Mario Brothers 3 was, ahem" is. If there ever was a game to represent the first half decade of the 90s, it was this legendary game.

A good friend of mine had an old walk through of this game, all secrets included. We used to get high and play this game a lot, and while I'm not bad at the game, she was much better. Favorite was the Hammer suit out of all of this.

You forgot a few things. To change the world hammer turtles that move around into a white boat with coins is this. finish a level with an even number on your timer, your coins are divisible by 11 and your tenth score the same number as your coins. breaking blocks makes your score go up by 10 so that is an easy way to get your score to be the same as your coins number. Next thing you forgot was the 99 lives trick on level 2 of world 1. get a tail and go to the second pipe that guys come out of. wait until there are 3 goombas next to the one that has wings. jump and float on them over and over again with more that come out of the pipe, and you can get 60+ lives before the timer runs out. just do the level again and you should have 99 lives the second time you do it. The last thing you didn't mention and maybe you didn't know, is something that works only when you can get a tanookie suit when you hit the block that has a tanookie suit that comes out of it. Start the level with a p-wing and when you get the tanookie suit you get to keep the p-wing, so you have the tanookie-wing... or p-tanookie... either way it is pretty cool to be a flying statue.
@NiraMoonraven7 жыл бұрын
michael cole There is a 99 lives trick in 3-9 also. Carry a Koopa shell and use it to break a block that will have it ricochet between two cannons that spit Bullet Bills. Voilà!

There is a level in the Ice World (might have even been the one you did where you have to fly up with the turtle shell but can't remember for sure) where you start off in a small area with a pipe to get to the main level. Well with a P-Wing you can actually skip the entire level by flying over the wall in that very first small area which gets you to the end on the other side!
@Davers8410 жыл бұрын
Yeah, there are a few levels like that. Unfortunately, that particular ice level is not :(
@cjl32810 жыл бұрын
Ah okay yea I couldn't remember for sure if it was that one or not. I think there is a world 7 level like that as well and maybe a couple of others. I'm usually good at remembering all the little secrets but that one I just couldn't fully remember which level it was.

I remember when I was a kid I discovered a boomerang and the music stopped playing. When I picked up the boomerang I got the normal mario suit with a boomerang on his hand. When I threw it, it never came back. Then I just decided to proceed with the level by going through a pipe and the game crashed. I never saw that boomerang again.
@Yveltus10 жыл бұрын
Well, you technically could get a boomerang from an e-reader card or from them blue boomerang bros, buts that's only on the GBA version
