I don't know for sure, but it almost seems like the Critics would prefer the 1993 Super Mario Bros. Movie compared to this new 2023 Super Mario Movie. And the 1993 Movie didn't get many good critic reviews back then nor was it a box office smash like the 2023 Super Mario Bros. Movie. I certainly agree with the Audience score instead of the Critic Score on this Movie. Also I hope to see Yoshi say more things than just Yoshi, I get why Yoshi says his name in the games, but for him to be more relatable in the Super Mario Bros. 2 Movie, he would have to be able to make coherent sentences. I mean it's not like they made the Penguin King just chirp in this movie or Bowser just make incomprehensible roars.

Personally, I found this movie great. I've grown up with Nintendo, so I had fun with the easter eggs (from the background to the music), and I feel that the critics just need to let go of the conceptions of movies needing some deeper meaning. A movie, like a story, is meant to entertain. If you find it entertaining, then congrats, the movie spoke to you in some way.

Just because a film is “safe” or “pandering” doesn’t mean its bad. These days, when a series or movie panders to their fans it is actually done well(not all the time but most). The music opinion is honestly spot on. When the music wasn’t mario series-related, it felt extremely out of place.

As I've said elsewhere. Peach was too PERFECT. I never see her make a single major mistake in this film. She never has any regrets. She's just this perfect mentor figure. And even in the end she manages to get the drop on Bowser with an ice flower hidden in bouquet thus eliminating any need for rescue. (who in his bottomless stupidity let Toad wander around unsupervised to get this ice flower) Sticking poor Luigi in a cage for most of the film was a poor choice. As this takes away from any major development in his character. The title of the movie was called "The Super Mario BROS" you'd think that'd been a core dynamic in the plot! And for a moment I thought this was going to be the main subplot with how Mario reassures his brother "You're not bringing me down Luigi". How each brother supports each other. But instead, Luigi gets taken out of the picture. So when we see Mario later on seeing his reflection of himself where the commercial for him and his brother's business use to be, the moment just doesn't feel earned. Speaking of sub plots there are just too many in this film with most of them getting resolved almost as quickly as they pop up. The best example being Donkey Kong's daddy issues or his rivalry with Mario. The latter of which gets resolved almost as fast as we're introduced to it. And this is because of the pacing in this film. The movie would had done better to be fifteen to twenty minutes longer. As for Bowser, the old saying goes "A hero is only as good as his villain" And Bowser just falls flat in this department. His apparent rivalry with Mario feels forced with despite having yet to meet him, he immediately feels threatened cause...he's there! This is the first time these two have clashed! Mario should be a insignificant threat to him in this story with the bitter rivalry not forming until Mario actually defeats him for the first time. His plan to marry Princess Peach is utterly stupid... Most stories like this the main goal is to keep such items of power AWAY from the lead villain. But here Bowser manages to obtain the Power Star at the beginning of the film. And he does NOTHING with it. I have no problem with him wanting to marry Princess Peach, thats a staple in his character in all other media but his approach to it just feels dumb with his plan being half baked. I was actually expecting him to use this Power Star as leverage, using it to threaten her kingdom if she didn't agree to be his wife. And there's still a number of jokes you could had based around that. Say he gives her ten days to decide, his minion asks "why ten days?" he replies "Cause it takes time to plan a wedding! We gotta send out invitations, hire a caterer, get a priest!" ....Instead he just tries to use the Star as a bribe when he proposes. And I'm probably gonna get lynched for this but...King Koopa from the 1993 film was a BETTER villain. He at least had some idea what he was doing and his plan was far more threatening and made sense! He wanted to merge the two universes so that he could expand his empire. Keep in mind this doesn't make it a better movie by any means, but it's clear more thought was put into his plan here writing wise. Now as for the Kongs...they really should had been used as a cameo and just been given their own film! There's more than enough characters and story for that! But their involvement in this film just makes it feel too bloated. I don't hate this film by any means and I don't regret seeing it. But I agree with others, it's just okay. 6 out of 10. And I sincerely hope they make another! And if it's good along with a possible Donkey Kong spin off, this coul open the door for other Nintendo based films. Maybe we could even get a Nintendo Cinematic Universe! Smash Bros Movie anyone?

Despite the fact it was made for Nintendo fans, I thought the film justified plenty of things. Like the blue shell being a general to imply there was something special about him, only using the blocks in training courses, having the power-ups like the fire flower shown to be naturally found in the world and countless other things. Also, I love this video. You basically said everything I thought.☺️

Hey all you hardcore PIXAR Animation Studios fans out there, you guys should make a fan-made Toy Story CGI-animated series call: Toy Story: After Andy that takes place the very next day after the events of toy Story 3 and the quality of it needs to be such an overall BEYOND PHENOMENAL/BEYOND PIXAR Animation Studios PHENOMENAL CGI-animation sight to behold, especially by today's animation standards, as far as the (big or small) human eyes can see to date, it'll genuinely make you believe you're actually watching an official Toy Story CGI-animated series, period! Even the people that don't want to see this franchise continue after the 3rd movie will all universally agree, "You know what; We be more than happy to take THIS kind of a Toy Story continuation over the official theatrical movies themselves any day of the weel, END! My honest review: I think as a BIG Mario fan, I was completely behind the hype. it was because I was such a big Mario fan that I came out kind of dissatisfied. Now don’t get me wrong, It was a great wholesome fun animated movie, but I think there was missed opportunity. Imagine, just imagine, if this Mario movie was more than we thought it was going to be. That’s the problem. It was a simple fun movie, and no more. I can elaborate off of that, for example Bowser/Peach could have actually been drama. What if we had this thing going were Bowser is a villain, but maybe it’s because he’s never been loved? Maybe Mario is stealing all the glory, while he sits in a lonely fortress? Maybe Bowser was taken more seriously, maybe Kamek is poisoning his mind and razing him to hate Mario, encouraging his jealousy? This movie had the opportunity to be a cinematic masterpiece, yet it played the easy card and kept it safe. I think many people like me saw the trailer and thought maybe it could be more than a fun little movie, and on the end it was just a fun little movie. And for those of you who want to say “it’s a kids movie” You guys go watch Puss and Boots 2.

While yes, it's a movie, so they can change things from the games, if we're talking about the games, Kamek LOVES, ADORES Bowser as if he was his own child, and I HATE those theories about how Kamek is the "Palpatine" of the Mario universe. Bowser Jr Journey is one of the games that prove Kamek's loyalty and love for Bowser. Or how about in dream team, where even after Kamek is injured, he still goes out of his way to help Bowser? Or in legend of seven stars, where if you have Bowser on your team and make Mallow use psycho on the mind-controlled Kamek, Kamek thinks "is that my child?" You get that piece of dialogue if you have Bowser on your team when fighting Kamek. That PROVES Kamek sees Bowser as his son. Also Bowser was always loved, he was loved by Kamek, and he was loved by his ENTIRE ARMY as seen in Partner in Time, it's pretty obvious based on the dialogue that Baby Bowser's minions adore their prince. And it's obvious Bowser is both admired, loved (and feared) by 99% of his army, only a few minions betrayed him on their free will: The Elite Trio, and a bunch of Mounty Holes, ALL of Bowser's other minions needed to be brainwashed. The reason Bowser is evil in the games isn't because he wasn't loved, it's because he was spoiled rotten and believes everything belongs to him. So yeah, I just hate this whole "Kamek is the real villain" thing :/ .

If you just ignore critics for their opinions, you would be just as bad as them. Even though critics can be stupid at times, they do make good points, even for the wrong reasons. Even the audience, who like this movie can see the major flaws with in it. So hear me out, it might just be that the movie isn’t that good.

You're making two contradicting points at one time. So we should acknowledge the opinions of another group-in this case, the critics-yet also accept that, according to yourself, the movie is just objectively bad? I was actually agreeing with you until you added the third and final sentences; this "critic-bashing" is just as childish (if not more so) as the critics themselves, but that doesn't mean that the critics are correct. It's a matter of opinion.

@@stormichow5325 I never said the movie was bad, I said the movie “might not be that good” what I’m trying to say is even though critics don’t understand Mario they still do have valid criticisms that make sense when you think about it. For example I’ve seen that video where a female critic was complaining about Mario being a cat. When I saw it I laughed so hard, but when I stopped and thought about it started to make sense. I laughed because I already knew that Mario could turn into a cat, but she didn’t, and the movie doesn’t really explain power ups or the mushroom kingdom as a whole. Even though the movie is very faithful to its source material, at the end of the day that’s not what makes a movie, not even an adaptation.
