I honestly don't mind how the online with your friends is gonna work. You might not have to share a screen with everyone and I never liked getting picked up and thrown into bottomless pits or lava in NSMB Wii and U. I will always say the more options the better but I'm still very excited about this game. The badges might fill that hole that made me love Yooka-Laylee and the Impossible Lair with it's tonics from exploring.

There's no player collision/interaction even on local. It's not an online problem, the game just removed interaction entirely

Yeah but it's still not the same. Locally the level is synced for everyone, like the enemies and when they layout changes it changes for everyone. Online you just see your friend doing random things, getting thrown out, and floating on things you cant see because it's different on their end. They're in the wonder flower trippy mode while you're not. It's like not being there at all.

Online is not making the game easy becasue it is completely optional... just don't choose to go online if you don't want any help in your levels... that part of your video is a bit dishonest.

I suspect their own justification for it was either to avoid griefing or messing too much with other people’s worlds in online play (such as having people ride you as Yoshi and then jumping into pits), or to avoid creating more lag by needing to synchronise multiple players in the same level (which would of course be dependent on individual connections too, but given the state of previous Nintendo online games I don’t have much faith for a lag-free experience). Couch co-op is really fun and Nintendo’s definitely made it their thing over the years, but when it comes to online play I don’t have much confidence in them, for obvious reasons. (I’ve never subbed to Switch Online either.) On the whole, the game looks pretty fun and has loads of potential, and the level of online play they did show was still kinda interesting in terms of the level of interactivity and even collaboration between players through item-sharing and revival of fallen players, plus actually being able to form a room and play alongside friends in a way, but the lack of online co-op is a shame. The groundwork for co-op is already there, and although there’s no guarantee that it’ll run smoothly and I am not getting my hopes up that it will, hopefully they’ll see fit to add it in a future update (and that through some miracle they actually manage to make it run well).

@Aero: Reason why Super mario bros. Wonder online is like that, this is because they learn from Super mario maker 2 where if you can physicly interact you can just softlock someone from progressing through the level, and also if they are rendered physicly on your screen even if you don't share a screen it would lag the same way as in Super mario maker, Since what you do in your screen will not interfer with their screen except when you give power-up in reserve and get revive by your friend, or friend race, or hit the flag pole together this will prevent it from lagging. If you worried that online give you easy mode play level that you have not done off line, and play level that you already done online.

a few things you got wrong in this video, like you can't pick up players in Mario Wonder even in Couch Co-op. In a way, couch co-op is a downgrade to this new ghost system. I personally feel like this ghost version of online I think is an upgrade for the following reasons: 1. the camera doesn't follow a single player, so you don't need to fight over who is the lead player 2. Each player will be triggering the events on their own screen, which helps make this already chaotic game a little more managable in multiplayer. If you want to take your time, but the other players rush forward, you can do that. 3. The level designers did not need to prioritize making all the levels work with 4 players interacting with everything, which means we can get a lot tighter level design with more scripted events. 4. This ghost system frees up so many problems that you can now have 12 friends in the same lobby, and that's awesome. On top of the advantages outlined above, they also added races and global online play, which are two things that are enabled by this new system.

This game is great and I don't mind the online multilayer but it would've been better if we have the option to interact with 3 other players during said level online while everyone else are still ghosts.

I mean you still get to experience the game with friends like this, which I think is the most important, and to be fair it’s kinda better then local in some ways, everyone gets their own screen and no one is getting dragged around by the leader, which looked tedious by looking at mutiplayer footage. All 4 players can still experience the game fully, and also I’m pretty sure the only interaction you can even have with another player in this game is being able to ride yoshi, picking up colliding and ground pounding others isn’t present in the local multiplayer anyway. So honestly if the characters weren’t transparent it’d be a pretty similar experience.

I dont understand why you upset. This version of online is gonna be the same in terms of “teamwork” you said you can’t pick each other up. You already cant do that in couch co op. You can’t bump, ground pound or pick each other up. Additionally playing online doesn’t need you to share the camera. You the only thing you cant do online is affect each other’s levels/environments but thats it. Everything else is the same

I prefer single player tbh. And nintendo will never have a perfect multi-player set up and there is a reason they will likely never do multi-player like in smm2 which has so much lag .. Hmmm Or I'm crazy

Yeah, I was looking forward to is as well. And I can understand maybe the lag isn't so great with with online multiplayer but I don't see why they couldn't at least make the option of playing as ghosts or playing as online multiplayer. Then you could chose if you wanted to interact with them or not. I thought it was going to be pretty neat to be able to play with my friend online, only to just have ghost mode and you can't help each other or do anything useful. I was very disappointed. It's still fun to play but it's discouraging too when your friend might be struggling and you can't do anything to help them out.

I didn’t like there not being character specific abilities ie Luigi jumping higher, Toad running faster, Peach float Also didn’t particularly like Yoshi being an easy mode because I really like Yoshi and wanted to play him but that will take all the fun away personally

i did 99% of my playthrough as yoshi, there was only a few mechanics that I needed a power up for. it was pretty fun to babysit the other players and give them power ups and raise them from the dead. i would deliberately slow down and wait on people to get caught up or put my standee in spot where people died alot. also extra heart points for getting to the goal together, and the heart points are a flex for me i got over 8k now

I'd obviously prefer having it be closer to 3D world and MMaker, but I really don't think this is anything incredibly bad. You can still play along with each other casually. Them being ghosts doesn't invalidate that in any sense. Racing provides a good competitive option. The online really ain't bad even if it could be better.

They have confirmed that in this game's couch co-op, players won't interact with eachother anyways, because it was too much of a limitation for the level designers to make challenging tight platforming segments that still worked when all the players were bumping into eachother. I feel like that was a big thing holding back the "new" series, all the levels were really open and empty.

it's not exactly easy. poison/lava/pits/etc can 1 hit KO you, you can still get squished. there's badges that increase your jumping. but honestly there was a lot of situations where it would be a lot easier to have a powerup like breaking bricks or using water as elephant, or burrowing as a drill, even some of the bubble power is useful.
