As a kid I used to be afraid of Dry Bowser then one night, I had a dream that Dry Bowser was in my house and had to keep the lights on or else he'll go crazy. Now Dry Bowser is one of my favorite Super Mario characters and I wonder why I was scared of him.

Anybody else find the physical inconsistencies between Bowser and Dry Bowser a little weird. Like, why does his mouth change into a beak shaped mouth, why does his hair go from a Mohawk to a ponytail, and why’d his spiked metal bands change from black to red. I’m sure that most of these were simply done for aesthetic purposes, but it still feels weird. His skeleton is even different in Strikers Charged, a game that came out a year after NSMBDS (although that could just be a simple error). I’ve seen theories out there suggesting that Dry Bowser is actually Bowser’s dead Father or a dead version of Bowser’s Brother (the blue Bowser), and that’s why he can appear alongside Bowser, but there are two problems with this. First, Bowser refers to Dry Bowser as “a close family friend”, something that seems a little weird for when referring to a undead relative (even weirder when it’s an undead version of yourself). Second though, we see Bowser become Dry Bowser in NSMBDS. I mean, you can try saying that Bowser is using some of his magic to pull a sort of disappearing act where he swaps out himself with Dry Bowser and vice versa, but that sort of feels like a stretch. What’s your guy’s thoughts on the theory? On one hand I find the inconsistencies weird, but on the other I can chalk most of it up to it just being Mario. Got any points or counter points for either side? I’d love to hear them.

I actually wonder if the Dry Bowser in 3D Land and NSMB2 is actually *the* Bowser. In both of those games Bowser is seen shortly after being defeated and is perfectly fine. Additionally in those games there is absolutely no context for his appearance - he just shows up in the minus/bonus worlds after somehow capturing Luigi, again right after Bowser was shown to have retained his normal form. Then he appears alongside Bowser in sports games(admittedly so do different forms of Mario, so this is less of a point). Not to say that Bowser doesn't have a dry form because it's been made very clear that he does, but sometimes I wonder if in some situations we are actually seeing one of Bowser's ancestors instead of the current Koopa King.

The reason you don’t see more of dry Bowser is because they aren’t the same entity, just like how Koopas and dry bones aren’t the same; they’re all part of the Koopa family/species, but since they’re different forms they’re more like cousins. That’s where Dry Bowser comes into play, you only see him when he comes for a visit and the two of them pull the old switcheroo (if you’ll notice they’re never on the same screen; because they’re not the same entity :P)
