Right? I mean it may not be for everyone but the 500 hours I have in the game were never boring. Like I would spend time just moving around different kingdoms, koopa freerunning, etc, and love it, because the movement is so amazing. And honestly Ireally disliked bowsers fury. It has terrible movement and close to no exploration. Music is also boring in bowser's fury, especially compared to classics like 'Jump up superstar' or 'Cascade kingdom's theme'.

I mean...most people experience some subconscious recency bias. It's more about being able to catch it. If a game has new, fancy, _good_ stuff, of course you're going to think "WOW, this is the best!" at first. It's up to you (or, in this case, NB) to slow your roll and try to be objective through the excitement.

Sure, throwing Cappy did readjust your angle immediately but in the scarecrow sections that delay annoyed the hell out of me. But yea other than that the Odyssey dive is simply too good.

He made the point that in odyssey you can't get all moons until the end of the game, but in bowser's fury, you have to leave the island your on and come back just to get another shine. He also said that some moons are repetitive, but in bowser's fury like 10 of the shines are just waiting for bowers to show up and breaking the bowser blocks, and there's like 5 different types of shines, the blue coin ones, the time trial ones, the 5 cat shine shards, etc that just get repeated in different levels.

I kinda have to disagree about Bowser’s Fury’s “progression”. Don’t get me wrong, it does mostly feel natural, but honestly, my biggest problem with the game is how each area “progresses”. When you first arrive at an area, you can grab the first shine in the area, the cat shards, and, if you get good timing from Bowser, the Bowser Blocks shine. However, the next two shines are locked behind getting the first shine, and then leaving, going a fair distance away, and coming back. In Mario Odyssey, any moons locked behind another moon are unlocked as soon as you collect said moon, and those locking moons are typically something important or impressive. Meanwhile, in Bowser’s Fury, if you want to knock out everything an area has to offer, you do the first shine, get Bowser to blow up the blocks, get the shards, and then you have to get distance only to come back, do another shine, and repeat for the last shine.

The reason why mario odyssey has so many moons is to give players more options. Also bowser's fury has the same problem as odyssey where lots of moons are pretty much the same (kill shadow luigi, get a key, find cats, find cat tokens, etc). Also the moon rock moons is to allow players to have more to do after they beat bowser (post game stuff) this way it is not just beat the game and then you are done. Now I can agree bowser's fury is fun but in my opinion odyssey is better.

I like the repetitive cat shines, especially the find the 5 cat shards ones. I think that all the different missions are fun and I don't think it ever got too repetitive (the Blast the Fury Blocks shines suck though) but/and I think we should be happy we got any shine variety at all because they could have just made is so you have to collect the main/first shine of a level and that's it.

Great movement and cool visuals is about all that game does well. The moons KILL that game for me. It literally felt like busy work. And I tried playing it multiple ways. Casually picking up moons, seeking out “challenging” ones only, and 100%. Well, there’s not enough quality moons to beat the game. 100% the game is brutal. So that leaves causal moons… which is how the game was designed. I’m convinced Nintendo made Odyssey with the intent of targeting younger players and super causals. Considering how well it sold, I think Nintendo succeeded.

There does come a point where quantity becomes too much. Because there are so many Moons, most of them are complete garbage, and detract from the value of the ones that are genuinely good. If they capped the value at around 360, then the Moons would've felt a lot better to collect while still being very abundant.

I gotta be honest, the limiting, unaccomplished feeling I got playing Bowser's Fury just kinda left a bad taste in my mouth. It felt so confined, so small, so basic. I liked the game, yeah, but honestly I can hardly see how it could compare to Odyssey on any front. Odyssey is one of the most massive Mario games out there, it has a stunning soundtrack, amazing gameplay, a near-perfect moveset, and just overall so much more to it than Bowser's Fury could even hope for. If anything, Bowser's Fury is _far_ more repetitive than Odyssey is, Odyssey has over 800 moons- most of them are unique, but some of them are routine. Once you enter a major kingdom, you _know_ the first things to do. Once you get the routine ones out of the way, the unique ones are all that's left, and each Kingdom is so fun to traverse at your own pace with fun platforming challenges hidden along the way, while Bowser's Fury and its 100 Cat Shines are overall more... well, routine, rather than unique. Every island, you have to collect five cat shine shards, most of them involve chasing down Shadow Luigi, and every single one makes you wait ages for Bowser to come out of his shell to blast some stupid bricks for you. Odyssey may seem limiting by barring off certain moons so that they can't be accessed immediately, but that's what gives it replayability, those empty spaces give you incentive to go back and fill them up once you're done with the main game. And even then, it isn't nearly as much as the moons you already had access to. Not to mention, if you're not a completionist, you only need just under 15% of the total 880 moons in Odyssey to beat the main game, while in Bowser's Fury you need literally 50% of the total 100 Cat Shines, over 3x as much, most of which are predictable to a fault. I respect your opinion, but from what I've seen I really can't say I agree with it.

Don't get me wrong I love the game but literally the only hard platforming challenge in Hollow Knight is Path of Pain and that's only cuz of the fact that the game does absolutely nothing to prepare you for that challenge beforehand. I bet at least half of the players only learned that you can use your nail to boost through spikes during their time on Path of Pain. That game's platforming is nothing compared to the likes of Celeste or Meat Boy.

@@thenationofdefecation7969 To be fair, the Blue Coins, Hurry!, Key, and Cat Shine Shards can and have been used pretty creatively in the game. I particularly liked the Key shine in Slipskate Slope because a lot of the missions have you go down the slope but this one has you go back up, reversing it a bit and mixing things up. Or the Blue Coins in Pipe Path Tower; I think those used the pipes well. And the Shards are there just to reward exploration, really. The problem is the Fury Shadows and Bowser Blocks. They aren’t mixed up at all, so they just end up being boring to play. And in the case of the latter, it’s straight up padding. My big problem with Bowsers Fury is while there aren’t many things as pointless as some of the moons in odyssey (kick a rock, ground pound a spot, meet a person, etc.), there also aren’t as many genuinely good missions. It doesn’t have anything like the story mode moons in Odyssey except for the Make the Lighthouse Shine shines, but those are so short compared to the story moons (because the islands are so short).

Imo out of Odyssey's 883 moons, only like 200 at the absolute most (I definitely think it is less but I am giving the game best case scenario). That is less than a quarter of the overall moons within the game compared to Shines where I think there are, at the absolute least, 50 good shines.

@@CK-iv1lq not even close. 1) a lot of those "platforming" are barely eveb challenges at all, if anything they go as far as baic movement you should have already been using during tbe main story. 2) I was counting sub-area moons but not most of the secret moons because a majority of them do not have an additional challenge, the "challenge" is noticing something and I would hardly count those as good moons. 3) Main Story moons are half good, half garbage and most of the boss fights are pretty bad. I would say almost the entirety of metro kingdom story moons are bad for example. The only good boss fights are most of the broodals, dragon, and knuckle-head guy. The 1 broodal and every other boss in the game is pretty bad. 4) Nah I would say at least half of the shines in Bowser's Fury are good. Since his initial first playthrough left such a good impression he got ahead of himself and proclaimed it the best Mario game. I do indeed think Odyssey is the best game in the series, but I only came to that conclusion about a year after my initial playthrough, Nathaniel just got excited about the new game. He made this same mistake back in 2013 when he put the original 3D World as his #2 favorite. Everyone is always talking about nostalgia biases, but nobody ever mentions how recency bias is just as bad.

The two main things I disagree with are that having access to all the powerups all the time is a good thing, and that the platforming in Bowser’s Fury is more challenging. In fact, I think the fact that you have constant access to all powerups all the time makes the game way too easy, as having up to 10 cat suits and 5 tanooki suits available makes it easy to skip large chunks of platforming, and you’re almost never in danger of dying anywhere but near lava.

Personally i like more Odyssey. Yes it's true that once you know where the moons are it becomes more boring, but it's the same for platforming: once you know some tricks or where some shortcuts are there's not a point on doing it the hard way, even if you want to challenge yourself it feels useless. Odyssey is more fun to platform since the game is intended to be played with captures, thus making it without them is harder and more fun, bowser's fury is designed to be played even whitout power ups, using them makes them easier and more boring, being creative punishes you. The argument that odyssey is more repetitive than bowser's fury just doesn't make sense. I'll sum briefly all bowser's fury catshines: collect 5 cat shards, break bowsers blocks, reach the top/end of the island, catch the bunnies, collect plessie medals, ride plessie courses, 1-2 "unique" shines per island plus some more on mino islands around the ocean.

Odyssey is my personal favorite due to the sick movement options and abundance of satisfying moons to collect. It also doesn't hurt that you can wear awesome costumes during your adventure, whereas the only thing like that in Bowsers Fury, being the gigacat costume over the regular cat bell + cat bowser jr is only after you 100% it. I actually really like the limitations that the captures in Odyssey, I feel like the bowsers fury power ups are boring and OP and it is too hard to do anything without them. I like how mario Odyssey has a low entry level, but an extremely high skill ceiling, so it is not frustrating to play for beginners, but it makes you feel like you want to get better at the game, like the captures, they are there if you want them, but it is so fun to get moons without them. I actually love the abundance of moons as well, there is just about always one to find. Don't 100% Odyssey if you dont like the post game lol. I actually didn't like plessy very much in bowsers fury, it felt like it took forever to get anywhere and like there was big open spaces of nothingness to traverse on plessy, with Odyssey, there are loading screens, but there is something around every corner in each Kingdom! I HATE FURY BOWSER, he is so annoying, I'll be in the middle of an awesome platforming section and out of nowhere I'll have fire blown in my face, plus I'll get all the other cat shines in an area, then there will be the one I have to wait for fury bowser for, because waiting is my "favorite" game mechanic. Odyssey is 9.5/10 for me, and Bowser Fury is 8/10. I like bowsers fury, but I'm happy it was short, I dont think it could handle being any longer with the stupid fury bowser gimmick.

Of course. The Cat Shines actually feels rewarding to collect. There are no Shines in Bowser’s Fury that you get by planting a seed or just talking to someone, most Shines are pretty challenging, hence it feels more rewarding to collect them. Some moons in Odyssey are just laying on the ground and I feel nothing when I get it. I also think the power-ups in BF are better than the captures in Odyssey. As NB said, most captures have one use and it’s very limiting. I’m not saying Odyssey is bad because, well, it ain’t, however it does have a lot of flaws, including repetitive and too easy moons, too easy platforming and the main game is also very easy. I can complete it in like two days. And by the way, I played Odyssey and Bowser’s Fury back to back, and I realized that Bowser’s Fury is far superior to Odyssey. It’s harder, has more challenging platforming and the overall gameplay is more fun. Again, Odyssey is still a masterpiece, however, a flawed one. Its still my second favorite 3D Mario game, but Bowser’s Fury is better. Note that this is only MY opinion, if you prefer Odyssey, then that’s amazing. Hope you understand. Have a great day!

While it is annoying for people to collect all the moons in Mario Odyssey, it's all about how you look at it. Personally, it just gives me more of an incentive to play. Bowser's Fury's music is hit or miss IMHO. If you were to ask me for my favorite 3D Mario level theme, I would say Crisp Climb Castle. On the flip side, if you were to ask me for my least favorite, I would say Fort Flaptrap. Both are from Bowser's Fury, one is an absolute hit, and the other is an absolute miss. The level themes feel all over the place in terms of quality. Odyssey has better music in an overall scale due to being consistently good, but Bowser's Fury has themes like Crisp Climb Castle and Mount Magmeow, which are excellent themes that surpass some of Odyssey's best. Music aside, I prefer Odyssey in most categories, so I think Odyssey is better.

I like Odyssey the most because it’s like a full game, the replay value is one of the best I’ve ever played, and is the type of 3D Mario game that I enjoy, which is open world/sand box like Super Mario 64 and Sunshine, and while I’m enjoying playing Bowser’s Fury, it’s kinda a glorified DLC and it’s gets a little tiring in to complete and I don’t think I’ll replay it again when I complete it like I do for Odyssey. In an odyssey level there are a wide variety of types of moons ( 3d platforming moons, dog collecting moons, scarecrow moons, music note challenge moons, hat door moons,puzzle moons, 8 bit 2d platforming moons,capture challenge moons. And much more.) That variety is way more than other mario games. And are baked deep into all the nooks and crannies of each world. Everywhere you go their is something to do and something to find. And you should want to explore these areas. Each kingdom has their own unique races architecture, currency, culture even your guide pamphlet, mario even reacts temperature Which marios idal animation reflects if it's to hot or to cold. I think what you are picking up on is that you can only explore something 1 time after Wich you have lost the ability to discover something a second time. But a slog, no the moons are wide in variety, use the whole map, and make real lived in feeling places out of them. And this is before we even talk about the movement. Odyssey rocks

@@jordivarela7160 the thing is, the hype hasn't faded with boswer's fury, and so people are more hesitant to critique it. This is why people are pointing out recency bias. That's also only one point. I see no problem with preferring the level design of fury; it's honestly really interesting, and if you were to tweak a few things then it'd probably top Odyssey. However, I am almost certain that a few of the other things are due to recency bias.

This game is better than any kingdom in Odyssey (even my favorite Seaside) but it is not a better game overall. I love it though! Edit: the diversity of the cat shines is way worse than the moons. Actually, I love the 2D levels for moons. Ok, I'm pretty sure I like Odyssey more lol

Eh... The long jump is probably the weakest we've seen yet, the walljump sucks, and the dive feels janky. The ONLY thing that feels good is the hat bounce. Even the triple jump didn't feel spectacular.

I mean, it is his opinion, but I feel like he reviews games objectively. He doesn't consider if he likes Bowser Fury more, he just says "objectively, Bowsers Fury is better because it has better controls, isn't overwhelming with shines, and the shines make sense to repeat itself, therefore objectively, Bowsers Fury is better". I don't like how he just says a game is better because the controls are more intuitive. He should also consider what he prefers. I miss the biased Nathaniel. I love the slow progression of the difficulty in odyssey leading up to the final Darker side challenge at the end. I know it isn’t very difficult but it doesn’t have to be difficult. Everyone is always upset because mario games are so easy but that doesn’t make them any less fun. (Take Kirby games for Example) Even though sometimes games feel very long and repetitive we still play through them and enjoy it. Whenever a new mario game comes out you get a whole new experience every time. (almost, *cough* New Super Mario Bros. *cough* )No matter how Nintendo designs a game there will always be people that love it and people that hate it, but it’s still enjoyable all around.

All i will say is, Bowsers Fury feels like a pefect blend of the collect-a-thon Mario (64, Sunshine, Odyssey) and the linear Mario (Galaxy, Galaxy 2, 3D Land, 3D World), and if the next game is like Bowsers Fury, but longer and with a beautiful score and atmosphere, it could be hands down the greatest Mario game of all time.

For the repeating moons bit, that problem is way worse in bowsers fury, most islands are just repeats, it’s either: make the lighthouse shine, cat shards, two unique ones and blast the fury blocks or make the lighthouse shine, one unique, get the key, cat shards and blast the fury blocks or make the lighthouse shine, one unique, fury Luigi, cat shards and blast the fury blocks or make the lighthouse shine, blue coins, key, cat shards and blast the fury blocks etc. I think you were way to hard on odyssey

What changes is the environment and what you have to do in Bowser’s fury. Odyssey does this but way worse as it’s level design isn’t anything worthwhile. Also did you miss that one cat shard in that snow tower. I think that he’s approaching this for a completionist’s perspective. Which is why he continues to mention how many moons odyssey has. So when he says “replayability“ he actually means “completing it all again.” Which unless you really loved completing it the first time, of course you’ll find that bit a slog. However if you just focus on beating the game, you can beat it so many different ways because of the tons of moons you can choose to collect each time. I agree with another comment this is probably new game syndrome.
