Reminds me of back in the day when me and my bass player would jam out. Fun stuff. I think we progressed a lot of levels when we got rid of our guitarist. Started with more funky stuff and learned new things with out a guitarist. When we had a guitarist it was all about the guitar. When we would learn new things we always called it leveling up :)

The technique looks to be a variation of the moler stroke which is basically a whipping motion leaving the wrist completly relaxed. It allows up and down strokes to work together. Vic firth has a few videos on it if you want to know more.
