I'm currently planning out a paper Mario fan game where it is revealed that E. Gadd turned himself immortal with a virus of his own creation, which corrupted him over time until he became the one pulling the strings of the Mario universe. He is once again responsible for the problem, his virus escaped and is the reason Dimentio became evil. After Dimentio died at the no of super paper Mario, the mind-control seeds that he planted in Luigi's head were never fully removed, and his spirit was able to take control once again. He used Luigi's connections with E. Gadd to bring himself back to life, this time a power restricting curse that was cast upon him by the light tribe has diminished (since he was dead). He sought out to find 3 of the most powerful artifacts in the Mario universe and combine them into a weapon of mass destruction. Near the end of the game, E. Gadd will release the virus when Dimentio threatens him and it will take over the mushroom kingdom. When Mario and friends finally defeat Dimentio, the virus loses control. Dimentio comes to his senses and realises that in order to stop the virus, he must travel to the source and stop E. Gadd. When he reaches the lab, E. Gadd calls the virus to his location and transforms into Emporer E. Gadd, his final form.

People like Jeff Gerstmann of GameSpot criticized King Bowser Koopa’s voice as “miscast”, but in reality, it’s much more quotable, memorable, interesting and hilarious than unfitting, including for a big monster like him. I played maybe 2 years as a kid and another year as a teenager where i beat the game from scratch, and at about 50% of the game I was already feeling like a god controlling mario. Sure I still couldn't replace all my jumps with spin jumps but it was never needed to make the game easy to beat. My favourite parts were godlike camera controls and discovery the spam flood on my own xD (I don't know exactly what the pros call it, spam spray ? I called it flood bomb lol)

Younes Layachi That’s exactly how I handle SMS’s controls, but when I said that it had issues, maybe I was being a little too vague. But still, I felt a little better controlling more underrated games like the original Super Monkey Ball duology and older Super Mario games (except for 64).

@@kieranstark7213 I have a similar stance towards SM64/odyssey and galaxy, it feels sluggish in comparison to SMS. I didn't play many 3D platformers but I still really like SMS solely for the camera, i haven't found a single 3D game (not necessarily platformer or mario !) with as good camera controls. It makes the game smooth enough for me to not be bothered by the problems (e.g placing the camera behind mario to almost always go straight forward even in turns, and 45° or sideways for jumps over cliffs or the void) Overall I feel like the game is still enjoyable with half the movement mechanics (I rarely used the water sliding outside of delfino plaza and bianco hills xD)

Yeah, while we also find Super Mario Sunshine to normally get more credit than it deserves (lest we forget that time when someone compared Sonic Unleahsed HD negatively to Super Mario Sunshine) because of Princess Peach being nothing more than a cowardly, stereotypically girly damsel (sorry if that sounded redundant), frustrating level designs at times, graphics that could have a color palette that could be a little too bright even for something that has to do with the sun and a soundtrack that is only unique sometimes with "The Legendary Sand Bird", these are a couple of aspects we revisit the video game for.

My favourite level is also "the goopy inferno", when I was a kid I didn't know how to beat it, I'd just kept coming back to it absolutely confused on what to do. I didn't know that you had to go under the island (I only just learned that from this video) so instead I used the drops from the pools of water to get through the level. That was honestly more satisfying than anything else I done in the game, I felt like I overcame my reliance on FLUDD and instead was able to beat the level through smarts alone. I bet if I beat the level the intended way, the level would be nowhere near as cool to me.

It’s still my favorite Mario game even when 1/4 of the levels are hard beyond reason compared to the rest and another 1/4 of the game is spent just chasing Shadow Mario and going through F.L.U.D.D.less areas and the game is way too glitchy and the Blue Coins are an absolute pain in the butt And I love it
