If Nintendo were to go the way of SEGA, then it would be not only a great loss to the gaming medium, but to culture in general. Stuff like this will always be timeless in comparison to the latest 'photo real' nonsense. It may just be me, but I will take stylistically beautiful art over realistic art any day of the week, and Nintendo excel at it.

Grest video. Yoshi's Island has the best art style, gameplay, and music of its era and honestly I'm not sure any platformer today has surpassed it. The best jump and run of all time. I remember, me and my friend who owned the game played it to get every stage 100%. only one stage we couldn't figure out. One week I got sick and we didn't played it together as usual and I found the missing red coins. At the beginning of that stage you had to hit the wall to the right instead of falling down. Some people will know which level I mean. And don't forget the power-ups you can win on the bonus stages. That made the game so much more fun, when you could use tones of watermelons that you've won.

Baby Bowser and Bowser Jr. are considered two seperate characters. Bowser Jr. is Bowser's son while baby Bowser is litterally a young Bowser. That's why for example when you travel back in time in Mario and Luigi PiT, Bowser looks exactly like Bowser Jr. They also don't refer to baby Bowser as Bowser Jr in that game.
@ResonantArc8 жыл бұрын

It's a well crafted game with a lot of attention to detail. The way enemies interact with the world and Yoshi has oddly not been duplicated to a careful extent in latter Yoshi adventure games. But i think you missed mentioning the overall gameplay. New game mechanics are introduced and dropped on a dime. There are a lot of slippery mechanics that can have Yoshi run off platforms with little wiggle-room to save face. For example, Yoshi can't flutter jump when getting knocked into a pitfall. This is especially frustrating when the two are combined, such as during the final boss fight where you have to learn how to fire on a completely new axis and hope your aim isn't off while avoiding slipping into pitfalls. The game is generous with lives, but repeating long stretches of gameplay to get to a spot where the slippery controls and while still understanding new mechanics make certain areas of the game annoying to reach. There are also areas platforming areas where enemies appear out of nowhere, hitting Yoshi and losing Mario. A noteworthy area is a platforming section in the 5th world where Yoshi platforms up a scrolling stage and ghost-like enemies appear offscreen; if you didn't know an enemy was going to appear there it feels like trial and error. And although I don't mind a challenge, I can't say i appreciate this method of gameplay. As for challenge, there are parts of the game that serve a nice challenge like attaining a superstar and running through a course to reach the finish line in time to save Yoshi's progress to that new area. Failing to complete these kinds of challenges allows you to try again from where the first superstar appeared. The vehicle tranformations also serve a nice challenge, however usually failing to collect coins and such within the allotted time Yoshi's transformed could result in missing out on missed coins indefinitely, which is a fine challenge. It's usually when the core gameplay, such as platforming, provides cheap challenges like some of the stuff i mentioned earlier is when i find this game is not perfect and actually gets nerve-racking, and not in the fun way. I just came out of playing this game and I'm surprised to see everyone rave this title so well when i found there were objective flaws never to hardly-ever mentioned. TL;DR It's a charming game, and i understand where all the nostalgia comes from, but I'm sorry: an "absolute" masterpiece and perfect game, this is not.

You should definitely give P3 or P4 at least a try. Combat is a satisfying challenge, collecting personas and fusing new ones makes for one of the best leveling systems in JRPGs, and you get a fucking dog who can summon personas as a party member. what's not to love? also you've probably read, but the stories of both games have some of the best writing in JRPGs and feature all star anime VA casts. Anyways, yeah giving the series a try can't hurt considering how cheap the games are on PSN and how often they're on sale

I was born in 1978. I bought a snes when they first came out. Loved Mario world. Loved the snes. Never knew this was Mario world 2. I knew about this, played it a few times, but didn't care for it due to the crying baby. Maybe I should've given it a chance.

Super Mario World is one of my favourite games of all time I must have completed it at least 20 times over the years. I have never played Super Mario World 2: Yoshi's Island. I think it must be because the Playstation 1 came out at the same time as this game and being 14 years old, I wanted to play Ridge Racer & Tomb Raider. I'm going to get this on the virtual console.

+Eric Close Go play it, man!! Isn't it incredible? That art style is so awesome
@owlic2278 жыл бұрын
+Dark Pixel Gaming it really is. yeah I've always admired the art style as well. it's something really different and that you don't see a lot anymore if at all

+Eric Close Yeah, it's very sad. Like Takashi Tezuka said, "Every game from here on out will look more like Donkey Kong Country". With few exceptions, he was right.

@@ResonantArc I dont think ive seen a platformer with the DKC style anywhere, í think Takahashi was wrong in that department.

I wonder why they haven’t released Yoshi’s Island on New 3DS or in the e-shop. For some reason, I’d play this more than Super Mario World (weird right).

Love this game! But for the record, Baby Bowser & Bowser Jr. are two completely different characters. (One is the other one's dad, if you get me)
@ResonantArc8 жыл бұрын
+irvyne Indeed this is the case. Honestly, I totally forgot that. I guess what I was getting at was that Baby Bowser from Yoshi's Island was the inspiration for Bowser Jr. Definitely shoulda worded that one differently, but I think you get the idea.
