Super Metroid - Reverse Boss Order -

I just played and beat Super Metroid for the first time in 2024 after playing Zero Mission and Fusion many many years ago. Upon looking at Super Metroid speedruns, I noticed something called Reverse Boss Order. This blew my mind. It's unreal. This is amazing, man.

If u played when came out U wouldve tried reverse too. when i played this game. I found slot of these pros little tricks Like the mother brain/baby metroid glitch the reverse boss (couldnt do ripley) but I did think about it etc When a game is godly good. People will play it and try dumb things all the time Its what makes gaming fun

I did a reverse boss order run many years ago, as well as a few other challenge runs, through the use of emulator with savestates. I had never seen a video of it, but upon reading through the guide on gamefaqs I was so astonished what I was reading was possible that I had to see it for myself. A lot of the tricks he's performing are so much harder than they look! For example, the super missile gate glitch at 23:58 took me well over 100 tries to pull off, it's amazing that he can do it first try! Obviously doing this with savestates isn't really an accomplishment, I was just beating my head against the wall until I succeeded, but it was still such a cool experience to see how a game I thought I knew so well could be broken so thoroughly!

I'm a pretty high level professional classical musician (sounds like humble brag but there's a point) and the focus timing, practice, and athleticism you display from the elbows down reminds me of the talents I see with any great pianist, violinist etc. i work with. Can anyone explain what happened at 8:07? I'm confused as to how, after minutes of dancing inside a block, Samus suddenly clip down through the floor in the previous room. PS: haven't watch the full run yet, just stop to express my confusion.

It’s a trick called moondance. It builds up your fall speed by doing a bunch of moonfalls over and over. I released a tutorial on it yesterday.

If you want to see glitches, see some of the stuff that people have come up with to get through Map Rando. Techniques you would probably never even imagine. I don't know if ShinyZeni does any randomizer but some of the best randomizer players (more people play VARIA randomizer) started as speedrunners. It's amazing to see all the weird glitches and techniques people can come up with.

Some trivia. The item pickup fanfare lasts 6 seconds. There are 100 items. That 10 full minutes of not doing anything. Then there's cutscenes as well.

@@johnny_eth 6.66 seconds, so it’s 11 minutes, and that only applies in 100%. Also there are plenty of fanfares you have to make an action immediately after, so it’s more like waiting than “doing nothing”

So I grew up in the 80s and 90s, played mostly PC (Doom, Warcraft), and just nintendo ocasionally at friends places (Super Mario, Contra). Only now in 2024 I decided to play Metroid. Did the classical nes metroid, then metroid 2 for the GB, then fusion, zero mission and now super metroid. Super happy with these games, from the first to the last. Super fun, great gameplay, decent replayability. Now I'm just checking out speedruns.... wtf, RBO ? Are you crapping me ?

3? From memory there are only the 2 stored sparks. 1 leaving Lower Norfair, charged on the spikes after the fire fleas room. The other is a shinespark given by interrupting Crystal Flash when Draygon grabs Samus.

It’s called a Crystal Flash. You have to be low on energy, with enough ammo, and then you hold a button combination after laying a power bomb.
