For the PS2 consoles at 3:37 - the original run of Japanese systems had PCMCIA slots as opposed to the IDE hard drive compatible slots we got later on.

I'm pretty certain that the Metal Gear box was signed by Hideo Kojima (as H. Kojima), the game's director and designer.

Where? I don't see his name anywhere on it.

On the bottom left, it says 1998 and below that H. Kojima. The middle bar of the H extends to become the middle bar of the A.

It is H. Kojima. My friend has 2 or 3 things signed by him. In that era I was close to a Konami UK employee who became close to Kojima. Whenever MGS stuff came out, we got signed copies.

Awesome! Would love to visit Tokyo in person and pick up some more Japanese games! I can play alot of imported stuff on my Retro Freak, and things like that. So I'd like to expand on my Japanese collection!

That PS2 with the expansion slot was for the first generation SCPH-1xxxx series Japanese only Playstation 2's. The expansion slot was meant to accommodate a card connected to a HDD module and/or an Ethernet card. (sometimes in one module.) The later modules had the full size expansion bay and did not use the card.

3:43 The reason you don’t remember our PS2’s having the different expansion slot is because what you saw were the original scph 10000 model of the PS2. Basically, this was the very first model that came out in March 2000 and was completely different from our launch model witch is the scph 30000. The differences between this and our model is the expansion slot on the back is a pci card slot instead of a hard drive slot, and this model DOESNT have native dvd support. They came with a boot disk in the box.

This was the one and only game store I had the opportunity to visit while I visited Japan in March of 2016. Personally I did love it! I got a famicom, FDS, and a few games there. If you haven’t already, you should check out the game stores in New York City when you get a chance!

I had used your video series as a primer for my own game buying in japan. I actually picked up very little as the prices for saturn games were High but nothing I had not seen before. Saturn, at least in November 2017, was pretty slim pickings! I went to Super Potato(Tokyo), multiple Book Offs and Mandarakes, Geo, and a few others on my trip from Tokyo to Osaka. Megadrive was the real shocker. 50000yen or more for so many games that I own but can not find!!! Pro-tip for Super Potato: the upstairs arcade is very smokey. If you do not smoke, avoid it. If you do smoke or can tolerate smoke, please just hang out up there, get a drink, play some bullet hell shooters.

it was literally the exact same box and everything to the one you held, obviously fully in english, couldn't see if your video was written in Japanese or english. It was basically xx amount of games (I wanna say 50ish) and plugged into the tv via composite. It cost me about £40 and i sold it shortly after for about £50. Great video dude, really enjoyed watching this

Akiba is still really cool, but from what I understand it's not nearly what it was in the 1990s. Now there's more maid cafes than otaku head shops. If you haven't been there, next time you come you should go to Nakano Broadway. There's not a ton in the way of actual video games, but it's a veritable museum of ancillary swag, a lot of it REAL damn old.

Def deals to be found at that Super Potato and other SP's, as well as other stores in the area like Book off and others. Prices can vary between each and even within the same chain so a game that was $20 there I'd find at another for $2. Good to know what you're looking for and how much they cost before going for sure. At that SP in particular I loaded up on plenty of playstation, saturn, and tons of PC Engine games. Some were pricier than normal so I could skip them but many others were massively discounted from other sources. And do check those side shops for more goodies, there's treasure abound!
@calleha01

Yeah, while the Akihabara one is more difficult, you can make some great deals at Super Potato. I found Mandarake and Book-Off to be incredibly cheap, but I also picked up a lot of stuff that was worth it at the Super Potato in Nagoya. You also have to consider the amazing condition they manage to keep their products in there.

there is no 3rd party psu, been looking for ages because i buy and sell these pretty often. Expect to pay around $50. As for the console there are only a couple of things that usually go wrong with them and if you know your way around a Phillips head its no big deal.
@dylbob9000

the issue with the psu is that the connector to the console is unique, three prong 12v 5v and ground. Cant even find the connector itself to make my own psu. IF I AM WRONG PLEASE TELL ME WHERE I CAN GET ONE!

What serial number you get on the loader? I have 1300 and something. Only 25000 made and as you say, well worth a punt broken or not they will only become more sought after as more people discover their rarity and significance. You can get power supply on yamatoku classic on eBay fairly often for around forty dollars and his stuff is always good condition from experience.

Just search for yamatoku classic on eBay and do a saved search for Neo Geo...every now and then he has controllers power supplies etc. Not exactly daily but I would say you would get one from him fairly easily. Often see them boxed etc.
