Super Punch-Out!! - Former World Record Speedrun [

Really blown away this actually happened, the luck in this run was truly very crazy.
This was played on the Wii U Virtual Console, so although input lag is present and matters in some important scenarios, it isn't nearly as prevalent as that of Mike Tyson's Punch-Out!! , so great times like this are actually possible.

I have nothing but the highest amount of respect for zallard1 and Hootey, those guys practically defined this game on a speedrunning level. This run definitely would not have happened without their strategies, optimisation or runs, so a big thanks to those two.

OMG this is soooo amazing to see. I had time like this on a lot of these guys waaaaaaaaaaay back in the 90s, long before speed running was a thing. Never the whole game start to finish, but I practiced tirelessly. I have my name and some times in a Nintendo Power magazine, my dad sent in the polaroids (LOL Polaroid!) I can't remember anything, but a sub 6 second on Piston Hurricane....so watching you do this triggered some crazy human recall memory. I could remember the smell of my childhood bedroom and was able to visualize it as it was in like 1996. I sure hope you read this, but with 1400 comments, probably not... I did Piston hurricane in 13s before, still nowhere as good as 6s. Update: I got 5 seconds on Piston Hurricane, 9 seconds on nick, and 22 seconds on Sandman. Narcis was 20s. Heike was around 10. Mad Clown was around 15. Rick was nearly 15 in practice. Masked Muscle was quick. Aran was a little quick. Bob was fairly fast. Dragon Chan was nearly 20. Macho wasn’t easy though.

I've been playing this game every so often since it first came out. One thing I can clearly remember happening years ago but have not been able to replicate is a "double knockdown" Sometimes it is possible for both you and your opponent to land a punch on each other at the same time. If this happens when you both are only one hit away from being knocked down it triggers some kind of draw animation. The only time I can recall it happening is on Mad Clown. Like I said it was years ago back in the 90s when it happened but I clearly remember it because I didn't even know it was possible. I would love to see somebody be able to do it on at least one character. I've tried a few times before but was unsuccessful. I would assume each character has their own animation for when it happens but Mad Clown is the only one I've ever seen. Have you ever experienced this "double knockdown" before or know anybody who has? I might have to fire up the game after typing this and see if I can get it to happen. I suppose I'll try it on Mad Clown since I know for sure it is possible with him.

Bits of luck for a speed run: 1. Bob Charlie stays in one spot; doesn't dance around during the fight. 2. Dragon Chan does the meditation healing after the first knockdown, instead of the triple kick. 3. Hitting Heike Kagero quickly while he's dancing. 4. Hoy Quarlow doesn't block a punch and push you away. 5. You match Nick Bruiser's first attack with the right sucker punch to get him stunned.
